Well, I recently found out my girlfriend had ovarian cysts. I was going through Google to look for treatments, but none of them actually said it was completely treatable. What I'm asking is, well, what is a ovarian cyst and can it be treated for?

Captcha: Supply overian. Seems legit.

A cyst is a benign (like 99% of the time, citation needed though) fluid filled tumor. My ex-fiance had one and it had to be surgically removed, it was the size of a golf ball.

There is no reason to panic, just get it checked out by a doctor. It's actually very common
All right, thank you for the help.

Well, it's a good thing you asked:

I'm totally a real gynacologist who isn't just looking up wikipedia and web MD and stating a pile of crap.

In all seriousness you really should just book an appointment with your local GP and go and ask him about it. (for extra fun pretend you believe you have them!)
I do believe ovarian cysts are quite common, and women can live perfectly healthy lives and never be bothered by them, even in pregnancy, on the other hand they can cause complications, it just depends on the individual case, so please go to a doctor to find this information out, and don't rely on random schmoos from the interwebs.

Yeah... most cysts are generally benign build ups of fat/salts... they're harmless for the most part, but it's worth getting them checked out every so often in case they grow or are exerting an inordinate amount of pressure on surrounding organs/tissues.

I'm due surgery to excise a cyst that's sitting below my left lung... it was pea-sized about 13 years ago... it's the size of a golf ball now... :S

If you want an overview, that gives quite an easily readable article on it.

It depends what type of ovarian cyst it is...basically it's most likely a benign tumour, which means it's like cancer but doesn't spread and is unlikely to cause any harm. If it's malignant, then things are a bit more serious for your girlfriend. Either way she should continue to see a qualified medical professional, especially if you don't completely understand what's wrong with her.
