Hero missions had rpg elements with skill trees and upgrade paths.
True.

That was the PvE that people were excited for,
I guess so? Certainly wasn't true for me, but I can accept being in a minority.

and supposedly required a rebuild of the engine.
That's true of Story Missions, I haven't been able to find a source stating that's true of Hero Missions.

It was also the only new thing OW2 was bringing to the table, events and little story missions against bots existed in the original.
That's a gross misconstruction - you can't, in good conciousness, seriously put the Archive Missions on the same scale as Story Missions. Event Missions, sure - Underworld, for instance (an Event Mission), is roughly identical in size and scope to Uprising (an Archive Mission; I mean, they take place on the same map after all). Story Missions, on the other hand, differ in that they're:

-Roughly about twice as large (your average Archive Mission was about 15 minutes, your average Story Mission is about 30 minutes)
-Have far more story focus and character development
-Have far more cinematic flare (proper cutscenes)
-Drive the story forward rather rather than rehash prior events

None of the above were true of the Hero Missions, which were explicitly stated to be light on narrative (hence why I never really cared about them). Given that we know that Hero Missions were repurposed into Event Missions, and having played Underworld...well, it's fun, there's a lot of positive things I can say about it, but narrative isn't among them. Not in any real sense. There's actually more lore in Underworld's codex entry than in the mission itself. If anything, it's kind of baffling how little lore there is in the mission considering what occurs, and what characters do (or rather, don't) say about Null Sector attacking King's Row. Sure, it's nice to see Iggy again, the references to Lady and Lizzy are nice, but they're just that - references.

So when people say PvE was cancelled, they arent misrepresenting it because some event missions exist.
That is a misrepresentation though. In your own statement, you say "some Event Missions exist," completely ignoring the existence of Story Missions. I've made this analogy before, but it's like saying that if a multiplayer mode is removed, all of multiplayer is therefore gone.

If both Hero Missions and Story Missions were removed, I'd say that statement would be kind of fair, because as stated, Event Missions are roughly on the same scale as Archive Missions. But since only Hero Missions were, no, that isn't correct. If you're miffed about Hero Missions being removed (and if you are, fair enough, people can be invested in what they want), say it, don't say "PVE was removed" which is an outright falsehood.

Ha! I doubt it! Even with the new content, they're going to screw it up somehow or fail to deliver on that. Just like they lied and failed and deliver on nearly everything else. Good luck, I won't be playing.

This video made me laugh. Because it showcases what happens when you don't make your lore available within your game. And it shows what happens when your dev teams just give up. In that they wrote whatever lore they wanted without considering if any of it made sense when put together.

Waah? Howa? How do you fuck up something so simple, so badly?

Say whatever you will about Street Fighter, Resident Evil, or Devil May Cry, but at least they all get ages right. Before anyone starts, yes they're all Capcom games. Yes, there was some minor retconning with certain characters' ages in SF, but overall everyone is the age supposed to be at. For example, Cammy is decade younger than Chun-Li, and it shows.

Also, it looks like this update is your typical bait to reattract the people who played and loved the original at a surface level. But if you take a closer look, it's ass.

What else would you expect from A/B?
