Random question - Are we not supposed to record or take pictures during the Beta? I booted up Overwatch, just to see if the program would run, and I got and error message throwing a fit about me having Fraps running.

May 5th is the open beta. Free for all. No codes required.

If you have a code you can get in a couple days earlier on May 3rd.

Random question - Are we not supposed to record or take pictures during the Beta? I booted up Overwatch, just to see if the program would run, and I got and error message throwing a fit about me having Fraps running.

I haven't heard anything, but people were freely recording during the recent;y concluded closed beta. Blizzard specifically invited streamers and youtubers to do just that. It would be very weird if they said no recording for the open beta.

Should we re-ignite the passionate fires of our friendship inside the game post-launch? We can eagerly detail our plans of playing together before finding out we're in different time zones and giving up with a shrug.

Alas, I don't think timezones would be the issue, but rather the cruel tyranny of latency.

My internet is pretty decent by Australia's lacklustre standards but playing on American servers tends to give me pings of 200+. Less than ideal for fast-moving games. (Sometimes when I close my eyes I still get flashbacks of my youthful Halo days having to lead every target by a couple of meters and watching grenades leave my had a full second after I pressed the required button.)

But hey, I'm certainly willing to try.

Tell you what, I'll test the American waters during the first couple of days. If you're so inclined you can do the same for the Asia/Oceania servers. Then we can see if we can make anything happen.

Sounds good. I remember trying to play DOTA with Dopo and how well that went in terms of overseas latency, so I'm not holding my breath. If nothing else, we can at least be chums in game, so we can each scoff at the other's meager accomplishments.

The pre-order beta starts on the 2nd at 4PST. It may or may not be actually playable then but that is when it is going live.

There is 2 beta dates. The first is for those who preordered, got a code, they get to start on the 2nd/3rd. The actual open beta starts on the 4th/5th. And both end on the 9th
