Why was it important to provide that level of characterization in a team based shooter game? What, does she get a buff when she's recently looked at Widowmaker's ass or something? How does character sexuality even matter in that game?

Seems more like Blizzard saying "Oh, look at us we're being inclusive!" while actually meaning "Let's whip the simpletons into a frenzy for more free press!"
Why is it important to know that Genji and the other Japanese character are brothers? Do they get a buff if they recently worked with each other? Why is it important to know that Widowmaker gets off on killing? Does the player get an orgasm transmitted through the controller for every kill she gets? Why does it matter that Winston is an idealist, who took his name from the scientist that raised him, and wants to genuinely save the world and make it a better place? Why does it matter that Soldier 76 and Reaper have a history and are rivals, I could go on and on with every other character detail that's been published that has nothing to do with the game. And yet, nobody seems to be bothered by all that "extra, unnecessary data", but someone's sexuality is declared? All bets are off it seems.
To be fair, all of that is completely meaningless to the game, gameplay and the plot. None of the characters' personalities, interests, fetishes, petpeeves, likes, dislikes, fears and hopes ever come into play at any point. Ever.
So all of that is kinda unimportant...

Which is exactly my point. People are saying things like "this has nothing to do with the game, so why did they do it?" and I'm pointing out that you can equally say that about all the other shit too, so why single out her sexuality? It's just as meaningless to the game as every other character detail that nobody seems to mind.

Sure guy. I believe you.

Every. Game.
You know what it sounds like you got there? An intrepid undercover member of the Games Media, trying to scare up some quotes for the next piece of clickbait trash about all teh "outrage". Probably all written up already, save for that juicy "Look at how backward the natives are!" quote.

Having read through about 6 pages, i'd say that the reaction is much better than the one for Battlefield 1 (Playing as a black character), and Dragon Age: Inquisition (more graphic gay romances).

Those were just... awful. Then again, though, these are apples to oranges, as the BF1 and DAI comments were from YouTube, and that is just a festering pile 365 days a year, anyway.

do you even play the game?????

genji and hanzo wouldn't get buffs

they'd get debuffs

they hate eachother
If you watched The Two Dragons cinematic they released and came away from that with the opinion they hate each other, you clearly weren't paying attention to the narrative.

Now I'm curious to see how the community would take it if they decided that one of the characters - one of them that you're supposed to like - is a devout Catholic or Libertarian or something.

That's a pretty elaborate jump from what I gave. I don't think I've ever seen a news story coming from recorded voice chat footage. Is it easier to believe that there are covert game media operatives playing games trying to sound mildly homophobic, or that there exist people who play games who sound mildly homophobic.

Being okay with gay people is a pretty new thing, and I hear enough people that have an issue with "dykes" or the "PC agenda" on a regular basis that that it seems simpler to believe they aren't a covert game journalist.

You'd have GamerGaters declaring him/her "Based" or "Redpilled" and therefore an awesome indicator of how the creative minds in Gaming were on their side all along.

It's happened before. Heck, the amount of people who don't quite get IDs on Chan Boards is pretty staggering.

I don't play Overwatch, but Tracer being a lesbian doesn't really bothers me. Its not like her being lesbian is going to stop Rule 34 artists from drawing straight porn of her. I'm a straight man, but LGBT characters don't bother me much unless they are hitting on me or have nothing else to show but the fact they are a part of the LGBT community. Besides, just because Tracer is lesbian doesn't mean she unavailable for straight men. If your a good enough player, you can turn a lesbian into a straight person. Same with vice versa. Why? Because real life and Rule 34 says you can.

I find myself not caring either way. The game wore out extremely fast for me... I was enjoying it at first, but it's not something that sticks with me, like a good arena shooter or arcade game.

I'm just laughing because the community is up in arms regarding one of the worst pieces of content (game or otherwise) that Blizzard has put their name on.

People should be complaining about how lazy and shoddily-written the comic was, not about how Tracer magically became a lesbian.
I thought it was okay, it was a bit corny and predictable but then again it's a Christmas special. And to mirror what Borty The Bort Said I really liked the splash page near the end, gave us a little insight into some of the characters.

You kinda have to realize that it's blizzard's fault for making it such a big deal in the first place.
If you talking about the one panel they're kissing, well the thing is you have to show/tell the audience someone's gay, or they won't know, It isn't like a black character Where you see him and know he's black.

It will be nothing compared to the reactions to a male gay outing. I wonder if Blizzard are just testing the water for this though. Comics have a habit of leading to stranger shores.
I 100% Bet you one of The male characters is gay, My money's on Lucio or Roadhog/Junkrat Pair.

Maybe they could make the payload gay so the community could focus on that instead!
