Overwatch's Sombra Hero Officially Revealed

Blizzard has finally officially revealed Sombra, a new offense hero whose abilities revolve around hacking.

Blizzard has been teasing Sombra via an ARG for months now, and despite a BlizzCon 2016 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/168575-Overwatch-Sombra-Halloween-Event-Leak] opening ceremony, it finally lifted the curtain on her, revealing Sombra as a new offense hero whose abilities revolve around stealth and hacking.

Here's a breakdown of her abilities:

Primary Attack: MACHINE PISTOL
Sombra's fully-automatic machine pistol fires in a short-range spread.

First Ability: HACK
Sombra hacks enemies to temporarily stop them from using their abilities, or hacks first aid kits to make them useless to her opponents.

Second Ability: THERMOPTIC CAMO
Sombra becomes invisible for a short period of time, during which her speed is boosted considerably. Attacking, using offensive abilities, or taking damage disables her camouflage.

Third Ability: TRANSLOCATOR
Sombra tosses out a translocator beacon. She can instantly return to the beacon's location while it is active (including when it's in mid-flight).

Ultimate Ability: EMP
Sombra discharges electromagnetic energy in a wide radius, destroying enemy barriers and shields and hacking all opponents caught in the blast.

Check her out in action below, and be sure to watch her introductory animated short in the video above.

Alongside Sombra, Blizzard also revealed two new maps for the game: Oasis, a new control-point map, and Ecopoint: Antarctica, a compact new arena map featuring multiple new game modes, including a 3-vs.-3 battle and 1-on-1 duel. Check them out below:

Blizzard didn't give any timeframe as to when Sombra and the new maps will be released, but look forward to them in the coming months. Hopefully before 2017...

Cool ideas for a character, but did they give her an undercut just because she's related (not in a familial way obviously) to Zarya or something? The short made it seem that way.

Also, poor Russia. They always get the short end of the stick, in this case being the robophobic race.

Interesting concept though I am wondering if the area of effects the character possess would not be O.P. in some unforeseen way.

If and when they add a Canadian character it would probably be an offensive melee blitzer.

Considering the Omnic Crisis, and that Russia is currently the only country engaged in the Second Omnic Crisis, I can't blame them. Besides, anti-omnic sentiment is alive and well within the setting (e.g. King's Row and the Junkers).

As a Tracer main, you have no idea how triggered I am by this.
How am I supposed to survive with only 150hp and no abilities, huh Blizzard?

Whatev's. On the bright side, maybe for once I might finally be able to kill a fucking Ana without always getting sleep-darted. That will be a nice change.

It's my understanding that her Hack has a brief channel time, and any damage interrupts it. She has to get the drop on you in order for it to work.

Really, Sombra feels like a support to me. She has no abilities that directly deal damage or aid her in dealing damage, and she has a fairly short-ranged weapon. She mostly concentrates on disabling her opponents as opposed to actually killing them on her own.

To be fair I don't think would be that hard especially with her Invisibility

Honestly to borrow a Heroes of the storm phrase she seems more like a specialist, Someone who can't be really classified so they just dumped her on offense.

Invisibility? So now we have the whole TF2 roster covered, at least. Do we know if they plan for a cap on the number of champions, or are they going to go full LoL and keep releasing until the game becomes pure chaos?

they make pretty good trailers that would give hte indication that the game has a story line and yet we have none of that. never the less, the character seems ot be really interesting and i sure will try her out.

Looks pretty cool.

That said, I haven't played and don't follow Overwatch, so I'm a little disappointed I completely misread the thread title and thought Blizzard was coming out with a line of Mexican hatwear.

I don't think they can do that because there's only so many 'kit' sets they can do whilst still keeping things properly balanced and not overlapping roles too much.

Besides its been five months since Ana. Assuming a similar rate of 5-6 months from now on that's only two per year.

Though I hope to God they don't do what they've done with Sombra again. I read somewhere that Sombra feels less like a character now and more like a meme because of how they've agonisingly dragged this out and I somewhat agree. I was interested at first but for a while now its just been exhausting to hear about her. I'm just glad she's apparently finally coming out so we can all breathe a sigh of relief.

Her kit looks good though. That ultimate could be very powerful though apparently its quite limited in range and its LoS only. From what I've seen anyway.

It's really 5 months since Ana was released? Jesus, time has been flying...

I agree that there is only so much they can do championwise whilst keeping the game tidy. But I thought that about LoL, and they got carried away with the f2p model and kept releasing champs until all the old fun ones were obsolete.

Yup. I looked it up. July apparently. I don't know where the time went. X-D

I think the way they do Overwatch has an advantage on keeping things tight compared to LoL. By that I mean: LoL champions are purchased whereas they give Overwatch heroes completely for free. Sure they make money on the extra skins but it'd be cheaper and easier for them to just keep making extra skins for existing characters rather than totally designing new ones.

So I think any new heroes will come at a relatively slower rate. :)
