Arc is a controller. It looks the way it does to perform like a controller, no matter where you're moving around.

Drive around with your hands mindlessly in front of you? Facial recognition? In what light? In what distance?

No tactile feedback? Screw that.

Like most things Sony does, it'll have a higher start up price, but ultimately has more features to work with, and ends up being better utilized in the end. That's my prediction.

And what does he mean, "in the box"? He doesn't think Sony isn't going to sell you a kit for their motion system to work?

His predictions just sound like garbage and nonsensical. As much as I like Sony over Microsoft in the console department, Natal will probably sell better because of the price. Ultimately I think once the glitter wears off, Sony will provide a better place for companies to sell Motion-Based Games.

Also whats with all the hate around new ideas? Just because the Wii had a poor attempt at motion controls doesn't mean they'll never be used or have a better system implemented. Let the new ideas flow, and try it out for yourself. Maybe Natal will be a great idea.

Hmm. But I bet more Natal systems will fail. Arc is the only motion system other than the Wii I would be willing to purchase.

Unlessd Natal works as well as if not better than the announcement trailer promised, I actually think it will sell considerably less than 10 million.

Arc on the other hand may do quite well if implemented properly. True, it's a wiimote for the PS3. But the Wii has demonstrated this kind of tech works and has the potential to be implemented quite well. We can assume Arc is a pimped out version of that with HD gaming to boot.

Natal could be a huge success, or an epic failure. We simply don't know yet. I want it to succeed. Doesn't mean it will.

I just hope these things flop - last thing we want is to have to move to play games.

Sure, sometimes it's nice to move a bit playing Wii Whatever but for the most part I play games to chill, which means sat in a comfy chair, feet up, with a beer and not moving much at all. (Maybe occasionally to scratch my arse).

How can you relax when you're bouncing around the room like a ritalin deprived kid on red bull.

I don't think either devices will sell very well, wii sold well because it was cheap and all integrated, you didn't need to buy hook ups or whatever.

Now you gotta buy a 360, a external thing, a game, this is beginning to look like the Sega 32x with it's 3rd powercord etc etc.

Ofcourse Natal will outsell it 5 to 1, after all thats the ratio of people who own Xbox 360's to PS3 after all (more or less, probably)

I really wished I cared about motion controls. Sony and Microsoft really have better things to do.

"I think that the Sony motion controller will have some problems gaining traction, since it is not an 'in the box' solution. That will probably limit adoption to one or two million at the outset," Pachter told PS3Center.net [http://www.ps3center.net/article/380/2/motion-controllers-to-decide-second-place-in-console-war/]. "Natal is different... It's only one piece, is likely to be cheaper, and I think it will come in the Xbox 360 package with new consoles once launched, meaning far deeper penetration."
...
"Sony's internal development is top notch, so I expect the launch titles to be fun, and likely on par with Wii Sports for quality, but ultimately, I think that the motion controller will only sell to 20% or less of the PS3 audience, limiting it's appeal to third party publishers," said Pachter. "A year or so after launch, there will be 10 million [Project Natal units] out there, which will probably attract more third party support. Also, I think Microsoft will subsidize third party development to make it a success."

So there you go, Pachter says that Arc will sell "one or two million at the outset" to Natal's 10 million.
Why wouldn't Sony sell Arc in a PS3 bundle? What about the existing install base for EyeToy?

I can see Natal getting a massive head start for the novelty, it's completely different from TV-clicker motion controls.

On the other hand, the TV-clickers have regular game controller buttons for those situations where button input is better... Arc will likely have an edge in quantity and quality when it comes to software. I don't think much of Microsoft's second-party development teams compared to Sony's, and it usually falls to those guys to show us what a piece of hardware is really capable of.

I want Natal for my PC! If it realy can distinguish high detail of gestures and has a robust configuration software then it's usability is limitless. (but I'd mostly play solitarie with it)

So Arc will be 5 times the failure that Natal will be?

I kid; Patcher makes a good point about Natal shipping "in the box", since that's why Blu-Ray won over HD-DVD. How many Playstation owners have the Eye, anyway?

Yeah and I can see where he is coming from, 10 million units would only be about a third of xbox owners buying one for their console and for the right price and the right games I'm sure a lot of people would buy one.
That's some extreme optimism.

Hardly 33% of the market isn't normally considered substantial for this kind of investment considering it's claiming to be revolutionary.

So when are they ever going to say something good about Natal? Seriously between this and "Milo" or whatever they call it they've announced nothing positive. So it'll be another Wii? What actually makes Natal "better" then any of the other motion controlled garbage?
