I suppose alot would be sold with the movement and CGI, and that is sorta where my scepticism comes from, based on what we saw at the end there the animation seems a little too light, and the models a little iffy. IDK with striker, its sleek, but it sorta feels like its not 'anime' sleek and more, smooth lines of a jet or something. With these though,it feels less like they are inspired by military vehicles and tech and more by Gundam and Eva.undeadsuitor said:Yeah, feelin like...all of this right here. Though I'm bein optimistic cause I loved the first movie.njrk97 said:Yeah I really hope they keep the drift aspect, and others, because honestly from the Trailer it feels like they are dropping the handful of things that at least made the movie deviate a little from the mecha genre.undeadsuitor said:I'm honestly not quite sure. Having one pilot just might be for the in-universe feel of the video since he's posing the same as the jaeger.Happyninja42 said:Also seems like they are going single pilots with this new series of Jaegers? Not sure how I feel about that. I really liked the whole "we are stronger when we are One Together" theme of the previous system.
I agree though, the whole two person drift/connection thing was one of the highlights of the original (even if they did just stop caring about it halfway through the movie)
Drifting: Maybe Gone
Non-Anime Inspired Mechs: Mostly Gone aswell (Which seems weird since Guillermo del Toro specifically mentions in the first movie that he told to concept artists to NOT look at anime for inspiration, because everything uses it)
Heavy and Slow movements that indicate the sheer energy and mass that is required to move these things, something that even alot of Mecha anime seems to drop in favour or basically just being animated like giant people: From the small amount of animation we saw, seems like that may be gone aswell.
As people have also mentioned, even the CGI looks a little more sloppy (but that may also be a side effect of the whole sleek design their doing in favour of exposed mechanical parts, which as i mentioned,im not a fan off).
As far as the lighter looking, more anime robots. It's something that at least the first movie motioned towards, with the newest and only mark-5 mech Striker Eureka being lighter/faster/more anime (it had shoulder fins and/or wings!) than the rest of them. Since these jaegers are mark-6's, it makes sense that they would be evolving in that direction than something like...Cherno Alpha.
I just want...an actual trailer tho please
Biggest thing for me though is the lack of Drifting, like that feel like a aspect you don't want to get rid of because its a pretty big narrative device and justifies character development and emotionally baggage actually being applicable to the running of the mech.
Alternate just sorta feels like 'yeah you have emotional baggage, that's great and all but just punch the freaking monster and we will talk about it later, kay'. While in the first movie it was more 'you need to sort your shit out because we cant have you chasing the R.A.B.I.T. when we drift or this entire thing falls apart. We need to work as a team, as one mind,or we are both dead out there'
Edit: To Dive more into the aesthetic thing, when I see Striker i see stuff like this
But when i see most of the New Jagers I see more
Edit Edit: Two Pilot System is still in use https://twitter.com/stevendeknight/status/888119947120869378 although in what form is unclear.
