Look, guys and gals, I have a simple and honest question here.

You who pad your posts to avoid warnings and then get them anyway...

{1} Why don't you make something clever up?

{2} Why do you announce the fact that you're short-content dodging?

The former gives you content of a sort and the latter prevents you from shouting on a megaphone "I'M BEING NAUGHTY!". Why do anything else but what seems to make good sense?

{1} Because brevity is the soul of wit. At least some of the time.

Sometimes something is funnier and more clever precisely because it cuts to the point in just three short words.

I'd ask the moderators to account for this, but in an environment where all to often wit and brevity amount to "Cool story bro", I can understand the reasoning behind the low content post rule.

I always get warned for short or lack of content.
I dunno, I a, like that in real life too.
At least in real life I can just grin and nod.

Snap.

To avoid the low content rule; yeah, I think it's just a misunderstanding as to what the rule is and what it's meant to prevent. They have nothing to say but want to say something anyway, like in a chat room, and think more words will be enough to avoid punishment. It's just people who haven't acclimated yet.

While I am often annoyed at some low content posts (first, lol, awesome) I agree with this. Sometimes a short reply is enough as an answer. Brevity can be better, it boils down the point rather than dragging it out (I have the tendency to drag it out, but on the bright side I never get low content warnings). My point is often lost in ramblings and misunderstood.

Sometimes I discover my post is pointless and that half of it is padding and I simply reject it and figure my reply isn't worth anything in the thread. I get annoyed when people just add Lol, this isn't a low content post after replying to a question with a single syllable. It's kinda like saying they know the low content rule exists, they ignore and they are aware tat it's a violation of the Terms of Conduct.

Often, there is no need to write a lengthy post. For example, if you just want to confirm something someone has said. Adding more content is unnecessary, so one would take the shortest route and just go "here's some more text so I won't get mod-wrathed". I like the low content rule, but I wish it had some wiggle room.

Because not everybody cares all that much. Not everything that comes out of my gob has to amount to an insightful epic, least of all on the fecking internet. Sometimes I just want to say something agreeable, and leave it at that.
As for the snide padding, well, I can't speak for everyone but I do it just to poke fun at the rules and the moderators.

Huh. I just thought the low-content rule meant aiming for at least two coherent sentences that add to the discussion. Well, guess I'll go read the COC again.

Some questions are simple and don't require a complex answer. What's your favorite movie? The Goonies, the end. Do I like X? Yeah, it's pretty sweet. May I have a bite of your sandwich? Fuck no.

Not every response requires lengthy, witty comments? And sometimes wit only requires one word. I'll be honest, this seems like a really silly thread.

Cool sto- wait damnit someone already did that.

OT: I gotta agree with the really obvious padding. If you put stuff that's literally like "extra sentence to avoid low content", chances are we're going to bring down the hammer anyway.

Best way to avoid low content is "I think this. The reason I think this is because...."

I saw the thread title and thought it was going to be some kind of rant about girls wearing padded bras.

I'm disappointed.

The point I'm making here, you wacky people you, is that in a situation where you get punished...you can't even come up with something that doesn't plant a big bullseye on your head? Come on! How hard can it be to not be obvious?

On a similar note, I misread the thread title as Paddling, and expected an opportunity to post this.

I always saw the low content rule as giving enough to carry on a discussion. Imagine this as a conversation in real life; if someone asks you a question and you give them a curt, one word answer, then the conversation stops. And as this is a forum, where the whole point is conversation, that's not a good thing. I got that from reading the code of conduct when I started though (if I said exactly the same thing as it I'll feel like a major asshat). I can imagine not everyone does, and they'll see someone who got a low-content warning, and take it to mean that there is a arbitrary word limit, regardless of what the words are.
