Really impressive, but my fuck me does anyone else think it's ugly as sin?
I wouldn't go that far, but I too don't think it's aesthetically pleasing. At all, really. An impressive feat, but I wouldn't call it beautiful at all. Gods, honestly, that Tauntaun is downright revolting. For starters, why is it brown? What's up with it's legs? No thanks.
I can only guess that it's meant to be laying down maybe?

Epic painting, but still... As many have said before - not all that aesthetically pleasing. But still epic. :D

If you look at his site, all of his stuff is based on the actual toys, from the TOy Biz Riddler figure that has been broken apart to the LJN Hulk Hogan and Big John Studd thumb wrestlers with holes in their backs/asses for your thumb. I don't know why, but it just takes something away from it when it's just a painting of a toy, sort of like tracing a picture from a comic book, coloring it differently and calling it a work of art.

"What a piece of Junk!"
"She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself."

I love the humor of this piece. The artistry is strong with this one...

So still life paintings have no artistic merit by that definition.

I honestly think that being able to capture the details of something in front of you to that standard is worthy of recognition.
Not more so than being able to create visually appealing works of pure imagination.
Possibly on par with it.

But unfortunately I also think it's an ugly painting.

Appreciate the work and detail that went into it, but the main focus (the tauntaun) is just, like many have said, hideous.

I think it's ugly as well. Everything about it is impressive for sure, the art is fantastic and the details are amazing, but it's just really ugly.

IMO it's the style of it. Those church-mural-esque boarders would be out of place in most homes decorated with furniture from the last 90 years.

Um, the end there...telling of the Thunder Cats themed painting "Coming Soon"? Based on this, I question his definition of "soon".

Not ugly as sin, but for a good 2 minutes I thought there was a guy dangling from the animal. Then I saw it was suposed to be a man dangling from it's guts.

The details are totally awesome though, almost better than the big painting.
The hair of the Tauntaun is really cool, but the hindleg seems to have popped out of it's socket...

It's weird that in thousands of years, stuff like this may actually be hung in galleries.

Also, did anyone else think the really detailed start to the video, followed by a '7 Months Later' screen showed that the painter got very bored of constantly taking pictures?

That was really impressive, I loved all the little details around the corner (I'm glad he showed them upclose at the end of the video). I'm kind of curious though, is he legally allowed to be selling these images of copyrighted works? Not that I care if he does or not, I'm just wondering.

Better than I could do (which is a statement without content or merit). Downright impressive really. In spite of what I just said however, I don't like the end result. Even a little bit.

That's an ace picture. Oil is a tricky medium to paint with, that is some serious talent and skill.
