Really, the hard mode has to be really hard then. And what's with Nintendo's noob technology? To quote Jeremy from PurePwnage:"I you not experience fun while playing a game, maybe you'e not a gamer!"
Fun and skill are not the same thing.
This, times 100.

A lot of games I've seen/played have incredible, amazing stories that I wish more people would experience/know about in a mainstream fashion. But most people quit half-way through or just play the multiplayer or whatever, but if the game was more like a movie, I think it would encourage some people who are afraid to fuck things up to at least give them a shot.

Maybe you should watch more movies? The games I have the most fun with and spend the most time on are almost always punishingly difficult.

Easy entries in my library get a quick playthrough and then are almost never picked up again. I am almost always disappointed upon finishing them.

As long as is it isn't Mercenaries 2 hard mode. That was easy. If the game doesn't live up to expectations like Mercs 2, then well:

Well, I always head for normal anyway, so I really could care less.

Also, boobs in the game? I'm glad I knew about this beforehand, lest the game hit me by suprise like The Godfather 2.

i've got some annoyances with hard modes and somethings games do, however an autocomplete mode isn't new, i do believe that Star Wars Empire at War had one

my annoyance with games is when they can hit you and you can't hit them

Im sorry. All current gamers are no where near as skilled as the gamers from the late 80s to early 90s. Not necessarily because we don't possess the talent, but because few games actually challenge a player (fairly or not). I recently tried some of the games from my older collection and had trouble with them when I found them simple during my childhood.

Beating a game used to be a badge of honour for a gamer. Now video games are such a mainstream form of entertainment that the average difficulty of the game is lowered to make it accessible to a day-to-day gamer.

While I appreciate the ease of access (I am an adult now and cannot put in the countless hours to become proficient at too many games) I still think there should be some challenge for the hardcore gamer. Things like Ninja Gaiden Black for Xbox was a great example of that challenge. Itagaki said he wanted Master Ninja difficulty to be so difficult that only a handful of people ever beat it. If I am not mistaken only one person at Team Ninja actually beat it.

The point I am trying to make is that the nature of the medium as a form of entertainment has evolved and forced it to increase ease of access. While this process is necessary to continue the growth of the gaming community, it is also necessary to challenge gamers with greater difficulty levels that do more than just require a few more shots to kill the enemy or a few less to kill you.

Frankly, I don't see a problem with this idea at all. Gamers have pooh-poohed things like Bayonetta's "Automatic Mode"
You do realize writer that there is a MASSIVE difference between making an easy mode that makes the game easier for new players, and an automatic mode which is just "Mash button 1 until everything on screen is dead, watch cutscene, continue) and thats ALSO way different from skipping a level (Which is basically what nintendo plans to do, which I thought was a brilliant idea on Alone in The Dark)

So no, Bayonetta is still retarded for doing such a thing. If I wanted to mash one button until something dies, I would play a pure fighter on the game "Fate" at least then I occasionally have to use potions.

Only thing "Hard" in that game was stopping a car because they all seemed to have 300 year old breaks XD

It makes me uneasy when people say that it is a goal to make it possible to beat a game without any challenge. It makes me think that the actual gameplay is something of an afterthought for the team.

The actual proof comes from playing the game. Either it is boring or it isn't, it makes no sense telling me that the game has multiple modes when I don't know if it will be worth playing on any of them.

Why? I'm sorry, I don't see it.

They could just make all the enemies super weak, but that would be boring. Instead, they turned the game into one giant QTE to achieve exactly the same result - people who don't have the skill to beat the game as is still get to play it, and they get to look cool.

I don't see anything wrong with this. Either way I'm still getting the game because it looks awesome.
