You're also speaking of chips. From what I understand, Obama wants to integrate a chip, implanted into every citizen, that carries their information, which includes banking, social, tax, criminal, etc information. I also understand that certain religious groups are against it because their holy book related to a such a chip that relates also to their "anti-Christ."

I think it's a great idea. Less things to lose, all of your information contained within your arm. Creepy as it seems, it's a fantastic idea.

Paper currency is quite useful. You can make the 16th President of the United States!

Who doesn't like a miniature money-version of Honest Abe?

Holy fuck
"This has to be how the nazi Germany started"
Open your eyes. Or at least read "1984".
In theory, it's a good idea - like socialism. In theory, a good idea. I've read the book, I've done my homework, promise. Forum rules forbid certain ideas of mine from being said, and I don't want to toe the line. :)

In practice, I disagree with it. As an idea, I agree. If you want to bring in a similar subject, abortion is viewed by similar terms. People will use and abuse both subjects for their own selfish whims. So, in practice, because of unintended uses, they can both be bad ideas. In theory, it's a good idea.

As Danny Ocean brought up... If the power goes down, you're pretty much screwed :p

Working at Safeway a while back, the power went down in our area. Of course, the supermarket itself has its own generator which kicked in pretty soon after, but no one could use their cards to pay.
Luckily we have an ATM instore, so the people could still get money out, but pretty soon that single ATM had about 20-30 people in line waiting to use it (Because, just our luck, this happened to be on a very busy day at a busy time o_O ).
Those who already had cash on them, and were already planning to use it were pretty much laughing at the whole situation. But those who ended up having to use cash ended up... Less then happy. And those who had to line up at the atm and get cash out weren't even less happy :p

My point is this: Even if we try and go all-digital, it just won't work. We still need cash for when the power goes out, or even if the connection to the banks gets shut down for a while, for a different or similar reason.
Cash will always be around, even if just for emergencies.

Plus, wiping your arse or burning credit cards isn't anywhere near as satisfying.
I have to agree.

Paper money just looks so nice in a big fat wad. Plus I think it makes you more aware of how much your spending. You can see the notes disappearing from your wallet as you stagger to the bar for the 20th time.

It's a lot easier to spend money if you don't think about it, ala, "just put it on the card".

Physical money makes us think more about our spending and hopefully reign it in a bit, well, it works for me anyway.
I find that paper money goes away faster than the digits in my account; I spend cash quicker because I don't affiliate it with my account. It's backwards to yours... I wonder why? :/ Your logic makes more sense, methinks. That's my perception, anyway.

Never mind paper money, I'd like to see coins go (or at least lower the denominations needed for notes, would make it so much easier if we had £1 notes.)
