By this time next year, I will be (hopefully) going to college in North Carolina

Now, I really want to major in film and someday, direct my own movies

However, I'm extremely worried about how such a road is possible, especially since there seems to be a "shortage of scientists/engineers."

I feel... guilty for pursuing something like film as a degree while I'm not even sure if I can make that into something that can pay the bills.

Any suggestions?

Do what you are passionate for.

If you have a passion for film - do it. You need to have a crack. Even if it doesn't work out, at least you had followed your ambition. And ambition counts for a hell of a lot.

Trust me, if you don't do it and go into another career you aren't as interested in because of a "shortage" you will regret it for a very long time.

Pretty much it. Hell, I AM that damned fool trying to get into film.

The thing is, even in this climate, anyone can pick up a generic job in a game shop or a fast food restaurant or something like that. You've always got a "possible" option.

So if you're gonna put the extra work in, it may as well be for something worth it.
