Funny enough, my parents don't really care, it seems. They'd buy me anything I'd want, and it's strange, because I reckon the OFLC ratings are pretty clear. However, perhaps it's because they trust my judgement, and, well, looking at my reports, it doesn't look like the trust was misplaced.

My parents knew that I knew that videogames were just fantasy, so as long as I paid for them I got any game I wanted.

My parents never bought me games. But I would be playing them and if they caught me running around with a knife on an fps they would make me uninstall it. Ha ha. I don't mind that they made me do that looking back on it. I still got to slip one of the dancing girls on duke nukem 3d a few notes.

My parents let me have whatever games I want, because usually I don't play violent FPS games. Valkyria Chronicles doesn't count because it's a Strategy J-RPG.

When I was a kid and Goldeneye 64 came out, initially my mother wouldn't let me have it. I was around seven I think at the time. Then she let me watch all the James Bond movies and let me and my brother have the game because it was James Bond and he was awesome. That was the only MA15+ rated game me and my bro were allowed for a while. Then she let us start watching more violent movies like the Alien series and Terminator 1 and 2.

HOWEVER! Years later, she asked my brother to teach her to play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, on his computer. In her own words: "Wow, you can get money in this game by whacking hos with a shovel". When I won my PS3 she asked me to buy her GTA IV for Christmas. When my uber-religious Auntie was visiting. Because she wanted to play it.

No, no. Your mother is an awesome woman. That is hilarious.

Anyhow my mother never cared what games I played, so long as I realized they were all pretend fantasy. I use to play (read: get decimated constantly) Mortal Kombat when I was five with my older cousins, granted she was not too aware of that game. When I started to move into the more graphical games, she actually took an interest and watched me play Zelda (and to this day still makes fun of Zelda and Link's nose/ears, saying they could cut a steak) and Lunar.

She use to play Donkey Kong or Mario but never seriously. Nowadays she does not play any of the games however she seemingly enjoys watching or listening to me talk about/explain them, such as FFX, FFXII and etc.

Never had a problem with GTA, which I rented when I was 13-14. The store clerk initially refused to rent me the game, however I asked another guy who knew me well and he had no problem doing so; the first guy was PISSED though. I use to play Vice City religiously as a stress reliever from school, it helped to say the least.

My mom didn't care what I played but I know my step-mom did. She wouldn't even let me see Resident Evil when it first came out. But me and my dad have been playing video game together since I was around 4 or 5. When I think back, when I was growing up, there weren't many graphically violent games like there were today.

My question is, did your parents ever take notice of they games they were buying, did they ever take a moment to observe what content may be in said game to see if it may not be appropriet for you, and did they ever say no to buying you a game, not out of menetary concerns, but out of a concern that the game may not be approprite for you at that age.

They didn't have "inappropriate" games when I was too young to play them. However, my parents wouldn't take me to see R-rated movies until I was 17. My mother, in particular, was extremely unhappy that the library let me take out graphic (in the sense of subject matter, not in the sense of comic books) novels.

However, my parents didn't do a lot of forbidding--they just expected me to have good taste and to exercise self-control. The only thing that would have worried them about GTA would have been "why would you WANT to play something like that?" And, you know, I still don't.
