Great article on the plague of passwords these days. Thought it complimented Jim's rant against passwords and how we're soon going to need a bloody manuscript (although I have a fairly consistent password across most things, with a variation here and there, but the usernames are annoying to have to remember) Anyhoo. What do you think of all these websites unnecessarily requiring a username and password?

What there should be is something similar to what Gravatar does for avatars (having that one site provide your avatar to many other sites, would be truly awesome if only more places that I frequent would use it =p) but for log-in? So you would register on this service thing with your e-mail and one password for log-in, and when you went to register on new sites using this service you'd only need to somehow link your account from that service to the new site/game and all your information (like age, username, bio, avatar and so on) would be displayed on the site.

My explanation may be rubbish, and maybe this already is around, but I tried to explain at least and that's more effort than I've put in to most things today Oo.

I recommend using Lastpass if you are tired of trying to remember all the passwords and usernames. You will only need 1 password after setting up Lastpass and it will remember all your usernames and password and log you in automatically when you go to that particular website or forum. :)

They've kinda done that with Facebook, Hotmail, and Youtube, I've also noticed that the default Google page now has an ominious "You" section. Given that their publicly announced goal is to one day rule the world (more or less) I have yet to sync all my accounts in such a way. Amish Paradise here I come.
