Because we know Amidala and Anakin never had sex. Luke and Leia just appeared magically...

Seriously, if it is part of the story, then put it in the story. Almost every Bioware game since Jade Empire has acknowledged that people have sex, sometimes putting the player in the position to initiate it. It should not be super shocking that a game that plans to be a story-based MMORPG would have elements of sex in it.

The more choices the better I suppose... Hopefully i'll be able to afford a new PC and TOR by the time it launches (It better be mid to late 2012 goddammit!)

I like the way it looks like a single player Bioware RPG that just so happens to be an MMO.

Sweet Gods, this makes me more amped to play my Chiss IA I have set my eyes on. That and the devs have all hailed it as an epic story. Sadly thay have not shown a lot about it on the website.
Wait, you can be a Chiss in this game?

Can a male character seduce male NPC's? I've heard some uproar over no same-sex relationships, so I'm guessing no...
According to some VERY shortly lived topics on the official TOR forums from supposed testers supposedly breaking their NDA, there indeed aren't any same gender romances in TOR, making this the first Bioware game in eight years where no such content is present. Quite appalling, really.

But there are also some rumoured whispers that they'll be adding them in ASAP after launch. So... eh? It would be nice if Bioware would stop skirting around the topic and finally give some official answer on this.
I hope so, I'm hoping for my character to be the gay version of Han Solo. I'm completely serious, it'll be awesome.

In the movies, they were not overt at all.

Soo i log in and i see 30 people having sex at the starting zone...amusing its a role play server, But ya I also have a strange feeling you guys are waiting for a WoW in space MMO when there is a fine space based MMO right here http://www.startrekonline.com/splash?redir=frontpage

Anyway this whole game really smells off, "I'm allowed to drop wow because people in media told me i should and it has a popular name attached to it"

Anyway im not hating on the development team but star wars strikes me as a Solo MMO rather than a team based dungeon grinder, As in you should be able to wage war on siths etc, like a FPS with sabers and power guns, On the other hand building a game based on PVP would cost EA more bandwidth, oh well,

I did indead play WoW but it was only for a span of around 5months and i stopped since the total money i spend didnt seem like it was worth it compared to normal games and if they expect people to be willing parting with their money well a man and his money are always apart.

Anyway in the end i will say guild wars 2 seems to be the clear winner but i still think the game is alright at best (its an MMO what can i say?)

ToR will focus on game play to keep you sucked in for as long as they can keep you
GW2 will be about short bursts of gameplay...i mean they even give you a maxed out class if you say you want to pvp only...i assume this is to reduce bandwidth stress on servers considering that its free to play.

I am thankful that homosexual acts are removed i never want my mother walking in on that on my screen

I'd be happier if TOR weren't leashed to Origin, but that's just me talking. I'll reserve judgment for when the game comes out.
Its exclusive to the Origin store, you don't need it to launch the game or anything (unlike BF3).

Recheck the article. There's nothing saying that it will be explicit, and it will be, at best, implied just like Episode II/III.

Really? That's the one you're going to recommend? It is even still running?
Anyway this whole game really smells off, "I'm allowed to drop wow because people in media told me i should and it has a popular name attached to it"
Most have pointed to its stories as the most defining element, to the point of saying "Yeah, it's worth it." Go ahead, pop up one of the recent videos of the starting zone that run 15-20 minutes. It looks and feels like a KotOR game with MMO elements.
Anyway im not hating on the development team but star wars strikes me as a Solo MMO rather than a team based dungeon grinder, As in you should be able to wage war on siths etc, like a FPS with sabers and power guns, On the other hand building a game based on PVP would cost EA more bandwidth, oh well,
There has almost literally been a Star Wars game in every genre imaginable, some of which were quite good (Still would love to see a Podracer HD remake), others less so. SW: Galaxies showed it could be done as an MMO, but fell to the problems that caused what I'm terming "1st generation MMORPGs" (Everquest, SW: Galaxies, EVE) of being too complex and inaccessible to more mainstream audiences. WoW, the king of the 2nd generation MMORPG (Planetside, Matrix Online as well), focused on making the initial experience simple and accessible throughout the entire path of progression to max level. TOR is essentially taking that model and adding more story-elements to it in order to distinguish itself and provide what they believe is a better game experience.

Plus, there's this: EA is getting its ass kicked by Activision. They have the top shooter (CoD). They have the MMO instant water-to-cocaine machine (WoW). All of this is while they're creating a corporate mentality of creative paranoia and overhyped franchises. EA's throw-everything-at-the-wall-and-see-what-makes-money method is starting to run out. This will probably be the last big gamble by EA for a long time if it fails, which is looking less and less likely by the day.
I did indead play WoW but it was only for a span of around 5months and i stopped since the total money i spend didnt seem like it was worth it compared to normal games and if they expect people to be willing parting with their money well a man and his money are always apart.
Congrats, if you're worried about money, TOR isn't for you.

I'm not going into the very serious problems with the FTP model. That's a whole new thread topic. But, as noted earlier, if money is the issue, major MMOs are not going to be your thing, at least not at the moment.
I am thankful that homosexual acts are removed i never want my mother walking in on that on my screen
Again, the existence of sex in the game is probably hyperbole of our imaginations. Even then, the actual cutscenes take place mainly in designated areas where the character is isolated from other characters (except party members)

I hope you do realise that romances only happen in private instances right? So you won't walk in on other people's romance scenes. AND Bioware have said that they'd be no more explicit than what you see in Empire Strikes Back, so nuanced and nothing more blatant than a kiss.

Finally, you need to pursue romances with your companions, your companions won't randomly kiss your character out of the blue.

So basically you'd be Captain Jack Harkness. ;D

Ehh...having the option is nice, but if it's as simple as "select this option" I don't see the point of playing up how you're being seductive to get to the top. Does it require a certain skillset/stat allocation in charisma or something? Is there any prerequisite of any kind? Or can I just decide to auto-seduce anyone in my way?

Options are nice. The illusion of options in the form of giving multiple buttons to press that all result in the same outcome is just filler.

So much for the RPG elements being "tacked on". Thank you E3 critics. Told ya BioWare would come through, in the RPG department if nothing else.
You're kidding, right? A third choice to "seduce target" that has no effect other than move you a step up the quest chain is the definition of "tacked on."

Am I the only one not surprised by this? I mean it's Bioware I'd be shocked if you couldn't sleep with someone!

The article right above this one:

"Gaming's Physical." =D

... OW! Who threw that?! Seriously, that could've taken out an eye!

OT: i was a bit surprised - while Bioware does some decent romances from what I've seen, an MMO with NPC/PC romance seems... ambitious, at least. If it's just sex, it's not quite as tough... though I'd be disappointed if they did. I have enough trouble believing people care about genuine romance as is -_-

And so - due to Mass Effect and SWTOR - condoms and the pill are now common game elements.

I like the idea of this. Hopefully it's actually integrated into the game somehow beyond "PRESS THIS OPTION TO SEX THE TARGET AND WIN".

However, I am constantly amazed at how weirdly cartoony the character models look in all of the screenshots. It throws me every time - they're not fully cartoony by any means (especially not in terms of their body proportion or most of the clothing materials), but their faces look oddly cartoonish and a lot of the guns and such I've seen look bizarrely simplistic and somehow "soft" to me. I guess I'll have to wait for the full game to see how well I can adjust, but thus far I've found the combination really strange looking (though I'm biased since I've never really thought the exaggerated CGI-style cartoon look worked at all for Star Wars).

Does anyone know if this'll have monthly subscription fees?
I haven't seen any mention of it on their site's FAQ.

Sounds good, I just hope they don't tie it to the dark/light side mechanic.

So basically every time you have the option of seduction it's a light-side choice and the alternative is to kill them or something equally bad.

It'd me much more interesting if they'd let you develop a style for your agents (guns blazing, stealth, seduction etc.) and then confront you with choices that force you to either abandon your style or your morality.
They did. Dark side have a more easy time falling for someone than jedi.
