What strikes me as the most notable, and most glee inducing, is that they accomplished this without blowing loads of money on a massive advertising campaign. They basically did what I was blabbering on about in another thread couple of months ago, which is rely on word-of-mouth to bring in the gamers. I hope to sweet heavens that at least a few of the other publishers take note of this, and shave some money off their obscene advertising budgets. Seriously, if the second installment of a relatively lesser-known franchise can sell more than a million copies, then God only knows Call of Duty 44 doesn't need to be spending millions, even tens of millions, of dollars to remind people that, yes, there IS another COD game coming out! Just like last year! And the year before!
If this approach had been taken for Dead Space 3, I seriously wonder whether the sales would have been hit hard enough to offset the added expense of that advertising. In other words, I wonder if the game would have been considered a success if it hadn't been for that massive financial deficit the advertising slapped on.
