Paying for F2P

So recently I started playing Star Trek online, since when I was in the beta I concluded that it was a good game, just over priced at the time, and I would play it if it ever went F2P. After spending roughly 20-30 hours playing, I decided to do the unthinkable, something I've never done in a free to play game.

...

...

BUY SOMETHING FROM THE CASH SHOP! Yes, for a meager £8 I could have a shiney ship model, a new paint job and a special item. My reasoning was though, that considering I had spent that much time on it and the quality was so high, I felt it was worth giving money towards (especially since I usually only get around 20-30 hours of playtime from most AAA games costing £30+) So I was wondering, have you ever bought anything in a F2P? if so what was it and what was your reasoning?

Crimecraft: Bleedout

Enjoyed the concept and the work involved so thought I'd reward the company (and myself) by buying the mission monthly subscription and something else which I forget. I never got round to playing it but was happy to give them the £6 or whatever it was for the fun I had.

Yes, I've bought some TP in both DDO and LotRO to a) take advantage of some things on discount and b) to acknowledge the fact that I'm enjoying a product that people have worked on and they deserve some compensation.

Then again, I appreciate the fact that TP is able to be earned in game w/o having to spend cash.

Yeah, STO is the same. I always have a little more respect for a company if they give me a way (albeit a hard one) to earn their cash shop currency in game, makes it seem like less of a pay to win kind of deal.

I bought a ton of content for DDO because it struck me as decent value. Never bought a shiny thing but I may end up buying convenience items, so long as I don't feel I'm being ripped off on the whole.

League of legends, I like skins :3

Brolaf for example, BROMACIA!

Oh and some on Battleforge too, now I like that they made the points cheaper and it's not had such a drastic effect on marketplace prices either, go figure. :3

League of Legands. I think I might have spent more on that than any other game, WoW subscription not included in this. I like the game and when I find a character I like to play I want to keep them available.

Yes I've bought things in many F2P games. There is nothing wrong with it. In a well made F2P, you are mostly just buying convenience and such. I subscribed to DDO briefly even after it went F2P because it was more cost effective to access all the areas.
I typically won't even bother getting into F2P games that look like they will try and gouge me for money, part of the reason I never got back into CoH, even after it went F2P. I'd have to actually spend more than I did as a subscriber to get the same level of content, so nuts to that.
If given the opportunity to play an MMO for a subscription or VIP and get EVERYTHING in the game, I will usually do that. I have no problem paying a subscription.

If I didn't pay 50? for a game, there's a big chance I'll make up for that number in the store TF2, LoL, WoT, hell, even Battlefield Heroes one time. I'm not really good with my money, but I don't really care what happens to it either.

Well I've bought about £30 worth of stuff on TF2 so far, despite having bought it all those years ago when it was in beta to preorders.

I've also bought big packs for Bloodline Champions and Tribes: Ascend that unlock a load of stuff and give you plenty of ingame currency to buy weapons and upgrades.

It's my favourite form of gaming at the moment, although I find the cash shops to be very expensive at times. £7 for a Grordbort weapon on TF2? £35 for enough currency to buy maybe half of Tribes: Ascend's upgrades? Bloodlines is the worst, £75!!! At the very least this pretty much unlocks the entire game for you forever, unlike the £25 package I bought which gives you permanent access to the first 16 characters they released it with, and a little coinage to buy one of the fifth or sixth ones.

I bought an 80 day booster in Global Agenda once. My computer did of course break several days later so that the whole thing was wasted, there was rage involved.

I also just recently bought a bunch of riot points on LoL so that I can buy some new characters.
I love the F2P model and think it's a great idea for everyone especially consumers. I get to play a stripped down version of the game so that I can see what it is like and then if I find it fun and enjoy it I can buy things for it.

I've paid for things on DDO, to unlock the restricted classes and to become a premium member rather than a crappy F2P member (Which usually takes off quite a lot of restrictions)

I think that is the only F2P game I've spent money on... Also technically I could have just kept making characters and leveling up to get the TP via earning 100 rep multiple times, but that would have taken a while.

Other F2P games either haven't kept my interest, haven't had anything I want to buy or have it so that most of the stuff is accessible without paying (Such as WoT, I could have done with a larger garage but I managed to go without and just sold the tanks I'd bought everything for and started on the next ones)

A number of things from the TF2 store, even before it went F2P but that doesnt make much difference in this case.

Mostly Paint, What I love even more than a hat is a coloured hat.

League of Legends. Must have at least laid out 30-50 quid on that. More so then any other AAA title on release for £40-50

Nope. The only F2P game I've played seriously is LOTRO. When you complete deeds in the game(kill x number of mobs, do x number of quests, explore x areas) you get points to spend. Since I'm a mad altoholic I had tons of points once it switched to F2P, so I could buy all the things needed to play the game like if you're a subscriber.

League of Legends. I splashed out £20 on it, and have a load of snazzy skins as a result (Only buying them when they're on sale though ¬_¬)

The way I saw it, I've played LoL for more time than I have with games I preordered for £35, so I should at least give the devs some money... And I wanted my Officer Caitlyn skin >.>

Yep. Bought RP for League of Legends. They had a Christmas special where you'd get 350 bonus RP for any purchase plus the 450 RP gift most players received made an appealing combo (they also have a very clever system where all items are priced so that you can't spend all your RP, so no matter what you do you'll have some left over encouraging you to buy more to be able to spend the leftovers).

Frankly I like LoL and their F2P system is the best. You never need to pay for anything to be competitive. Everything that influences gameplay you can get by playing. You can pay for boosts to get XP and such faster but the only thing you can only get for real money is cosmetic stuff (different champion skins)

Nope, I've always stuck to a rule that if it's free then I won't pay a cent
But who knows maybe in future I will pay, although what you get for the money would have to be very important game wise, not just some pet or some useless thing like that.

Currently playing LOTRO, but aside from paying monthly for the VIP (Basically gives the equivalent of a subscription before the game went F2P) I haven't really spent a whole lot of money in the game's shop. You get some free points monthly having a subscription, and you can also get some points by doing deeds, so there really isn't much of a need for me to spend a whole lot of money in the shop.

Also playing the Tribes: Ascend Beta, and you can either buy things with XP or money. XP seems to take a lot of time to get simple things though, which is rather irritating but it's better than nothing.
