It's probably the BEST 4X game on PC, or any other system.

Cool stuff. I wish Alpha Centauri got a remake, because I got it off GOG and it's unplayable to me.Tallim said:Ah Shadow Magickyosai7 said:I don't know, I love Master of Magic and Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic.Tanis said:I ALWAYS recommend "Galactic Civilizations 2: Endless Universe".
It's probably the BEST 4X game on PC, or any other system.Absolutely love that game, in fact I've played Gal Civ 2 rather a lot too and I still prefer Shadow Magic.
I'm going to say AI War because seriously it's in a league of its own, technically an RTS but really it's a very different form of 4X with an RTS interface and I know it runs on intel chipsets as my desktop died and I have to use my shoddy laptop at the moment and it runs flawlessly.
Solium Infernum is worth a look too but it has a lot of problems with interface and AI that drag it down somewhat, the underlying game is amazing though.
EDIT: Adding AI War trailer...
Yeah I used to enjoy Alpha Centauri. Although not enough to buy it off GOG. Could do with a more modern version.kyosai7 said:Cool stuff. I got it on sale, lol. But yeah, love 4x games. About the only strategy type of game that I like, aside the odd Atlus PS2/PSP SRPG release, lol.Tallim said:Yeah I used to enjoy Alpha Centauri. That's the odd thing about AI War, it looks like an RTS but really it's a 4X, but a damned weird one as you want to keep your expansion to a minimum and only take key places otherwise the AI gets really annoyed (i.e. starts killing you hard)kyosai7 said:I got it on sale, lol. You should be able to play all of this and its just games off the top of my head that I enjoy now or have always enjoyedYingDerpington said:Recently i've gone through a period of intense boredom due to the fact that i've finished all of the current PC games I own probably 4 or more times over. It would be really great if any of you guys would be able to recommend some great PC games for me to purchase in the future. (most games i've enjoyed seem to indicate a preference for RPG's and the like)
games I have enjoyed (just for an idea of what kind i'm looking for):
Mount & Blade (the entire series)
Medieval Total War 2
Dungeon Keeper 2
Heroes V (expansions as well)
Diablo 1 and 2
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines
Dragon Age - Origins
KOTOR 1 and 2
Star Wars BF2
Morrowing, Oblivion, Skyrim
Fallout 3 and NV
Currently Looking into:
Jade Empire
Titan Quest
PC Info(it's a laptop and not all that great for new releases):
Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4200 @ 2.0 GHz
4 GB Ram (roughly 3 GB usable according to system checks)
Mobile Intel 4 Express Chipset Family (not sure on specifics)
If anyone could help me with this I would be really appreciative.
Yes, look at Jade Empire since you're working with those specs and like Bioware rpgs. It's a port of an XBox game, and its controls are a bit goofy, but the game works well enough, and it's an unusual addition to Bioware's titles.YingDerpington said:PC Info(it's a laptop and not all that great for new releases):

I thought AoW was pretty good, but I just love the space thing.kyosai7 said:I don't know, I love Master of Magic and Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic.Tanis said:I ALWAYS recommend "Galactic Civilizations 2: Endless Universe".

Oh god...Muspelheim said:Dwarf Fortress. It's free, DRM-free and fantastic.

It's a very different experience from most games. It's got an insane difficulty cruve, but it's certainly a challenge. How awesome is it? Very awesome.
Exactly how awesome? Let the legends of Boatmurdered testify to that.

Why in the hell didn't you warn me about the ridiculousness of the learning curve!!! walking into a wall doesn't do it justice, it's about as friendly to a new player as a particularely savage, ill-tempered rottweiler that's been confronted with a disabled elderly person that smells like off sausage!Joccaren said:Oh god...Muspelheim said:Dwarf Fortress. Boatmurdered...
Absolutely hilarious, especially at the end.
But listen to this guy. Dwarf Fortress is fun. Getting into it is like walking into a wall, but there are tutorials out there that will level the wall so you can just walk on in.
Although, not 1 person I know has actually lived on their first playthrough. Most died due to dehydration. One guy made it to a goblin raid, and one guy made the mistake of embarking in a savage Biome, where giant Panda's tore his Dwarfs to shreds. Be careful, and if you ever get bored - lose. Losing is fun [Especially when it involves the Circus].
You can at least beat the rottweiler to death, whilst a brick wall just sits there in your way until you get a wreckingball.YingDerpington said:Why in the hell didn't you warn me about the ridiculousness of the learning curve!!! walking into a wall doesn't do it justice, it's about as friendly to a new player as a particularely savage, ill-tempered rottweiler that's been confronted with a disabled elderly person that smells like off sausage!
