PC/Gamecube Mod

I'm planning a project involving a dissembled mini-desktop, and I'm in the stage of finding a case. I recently found my old Gamecube and have no use for it (worth practically nothing down at Gamestop) and I realized I could possibly use it as a case.

I would gut the Gamecube of its hardware, the four controller inputs would be USB ports (clever, eh?), the Power button would be extended to the computers, and the disk drive would be replaced (but I could still keep the top close system).

Two questions. 1: Would you buy this? 2: Is this too of an ambitious project?

Eh, not really. I get that you where probably joking, but in case you weren't: the game cube has roughly 90 inches of volume, not nearly enough to hold the innards of a normal PC. A pizza box on the other hand...

I think it's a cool idea. I'm no expert, but the problem of replacing the laser and fitting a standard sized disk into the thing seems as if it would pose a slight problem...

Good question, that's why I'm asking if this project is possible.

The width of the Cube is fifteen cm, I would probably shave off a cm or two around the Cube's drive, avoiding the buttons. After gutting out the Cube, I estimate 3 cm of vertical space and about 14 cm of width. It would be a tight fit, but I think I could do it.

Try http://www.overclock.net , it has a whole forum devoted to case mods... and if you provide photos of your build during its progress you will get tons of acclaim!

The problem I see is that the gamecube case is probably too small for even a microatx motherboard, but a little creativity goes a long way. You could have it sitting on a structure of some sort to hide the fact that the gamecube does not contain the mobo.

I would pay for that it would be pure awesomeness if they put it on the market.

That's my intention, 1 Eee box + Gamecube case + possible paint job < $600.00
I could turn a small profit.

I would gladly pay 600 for it but not anymore than that.

Actually, a VERY quick estimate was around 400 dollars, plus 50 (to make profit...) and the base price would be somewhere around 450 to 500.

I would be keen t buy this but maybe you would need to make a larger game cube or sommethig like that, wouldnt you need to look out for copyrights?

True. But then again you get the ROMs for free minus the reliability.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure by now that it would be useless to install a CD/DVD-rom drive of any kind because most software/music/media/etc are downloadable these days. Next, if you're only running Linux, chances are, you're only making use of software through the software store which again is accessed via download.
