I love me some PC Gaming. RTS, FPS, BLT, doesn't matter. However, I played through Assassin's Creed recently. Now, don't get me wrong, I liked the game, but I found that the mouse and keyboard don't lend themselves particularly well to the 3rd-person adventure games. I just got my hands on Arkham Asylum, and I want to try something new.

So here goes: What PC gaming controllers do you, the Escapist Community, recommend?

PS: What are the pros/cons to Playstation vs Xbox controllers for PC gaming?

I like the PS3 controller as a gamepad, it handles just as well as it would with the PS3, and it comes with its own USB cord already, so it's all good!

I use a 360 controller for Racing games, and vehicle sections, but then switch to keyboard/Mouse for shooting.

Most Third person open world games(When not online) can be enjoyed with a 360 gamepad.

I use my extra 360 controller which I have for any PC games which play better on controllers. The pro's to it is it has an high compatability with controller supported games. Quite a few games which are on both PC and 360 often pick up your controller straight away on the pc version, and you can use the controls from the 360 version without having to change any settings unlike PS3 controller. Con being, if you have a wireless 360 controller, you need to buy one of those wireless gaming receivers. PS3 controller you can hook up via USB by downloading a driver, it isn't officially supported though I don't think. Other than that, out of the 2, I'd say choose which ever feels better to use.

For years, the only non mouse&keyboard controllers I had was something along these lines

But you can also use a Xbox360 controller as a PC controller if you download the drivers and plug it in.

I use a PS3 controller, combined with a program called xpadder. It maps any mouse or keyboard key to a gamepad, so I can play anything with the controller! It makes certain flash games a whole lot easier!

I use a logitec game pad. It's not as plug and play as the xbox one, but it was a third the price, so I can handle a little bit of controls adjustment.

Pros Cons for Controller Gaming on PC: You will never have the precision that you can have using mouse and keyboard. I don't care who you are, a clunky joystick will never be as accurate as my 1800dpi Deathadder.

With that in mind, it really depends on what you want the controller for. The PC accepts Xbox 360 controllers just fine with no problems whatsoever, and I assume it does the same with PS3 controllers. I personally have an Xbox 360 based arcade stick for fighting games, and I chose the Xbox 360 over the PS3 version simply because the fact that Microsoft makes the Xbox 360, and they make Windows. They may have the same compatibility, but I just prefer to have a 360 controller.

Or, if you want to go a cheaper route, I've had a Logitech Dual Action, and they aren't bad. I personally seem to find them cheaply made, but they never gave my any problems, other then the fact it feels like a cheap controller.

That's my opinion.

A third the price? Are you sure about that? My wired 360 controller was $20.
Wow. They were $60+ for wired, $80+ for wireless, and I bought my logitec for $20-something.
