I can't help but feel bad for the guys at gearbox. Every punk on the internet is going to say how shit there company and they are and then and how much better said punk is at making games. That's gotta be frustrating, especially for the guys who were just doing there job and aren't responsible for the sum of the bad parts.

Maybe I'm just biased because I know how hard it is to do this stuff and that 90% of your time is spent making changes that nobody cares about. (People who make physics engines are gods! Respect them!)

Well if the AI is improved by modders I'll buy it used for £10-£15 because I really want to play it, but after hearing all the problems I'm not keen on handing my money over to gearbox and the others.
Wait... what? Do you understand what they mean by "modding"? User modifications are only done on PC, which has no used games, consoles don't have mods... unless you consider those COD infection hacks "mods."

If someone on the Steam Workshop manages to un-shit the AI, I may pick up a PC copy when it goes on sale. I want to love this game, I really do. I can mentally wipe all AvP material from my head as non-canon, but this is explicitly now part of the story I love. On the other hand, Gearbox could always do us a solid and release a completely overhauled "gold edition" for reduced price as an apology.

Gearbox should pay these modders for saving their game - at least their future PC sales.

Hm.

The graphics card thing makes me wonder how much of the six-year development cycle was actually spent working on the game. If most of it was developed over the course of one year, five years ago, that would explain a lot.
Well the layoffs at Gearbox 5 years ago I don't feel you are that far off. If I had to guess, a lot of the staff working on Aliens: CM were either cut in the 2008 layoffs or transfered to Borderlands, it being Gearboxes own IP and all. I wouldn't be surprised if Colonial Marines got completely shelved during that time. By the time anyone got back on the project, familiarized themselves enough with the preexisting code to work with it, and started picking up steam a lot of its assets and graphics would probably be extremely outdated. Then in 2010 Gearbox is given the rights to Duke Nukem. Being a much bigger IP than Aliens, especially with the massive hype I feel that once again people would be transfered away from Colonial Marines to work on the much more hyped DN:F and Borderlands 2. I would put money on them releasing it in this state due to an absolute end development date on a contract somewhere.

This doesn't absolve them of the lying though, I just understand why the product was so poor and am kind of impressed they are still doing so well as a developer. Juggling 3 hot IPs with only ~180 employees (if wikipedia is to be trusted) at the same time is pretty impressive despite the end results.

Right yes on pc maybe I explained badly, but with your response I'm guessing online 1 time activation to an account only so that you can't sell it on, in which case my bad I didn't realise.
