I'm a PC gamer, but only because thats where the MMO's are. I think Xbox live could change that for me.
PC games infuriate me because they hardly ever work... you have to have some awesome machine on which to play them, and thats way out of my price range. A console is way cheaper, and usually alot more reliable than some windows piece of crap which gradually gets slower, more obselete and dead.
There are better genres on the PC; rts, mmo and the pc fps's, but as a gaming machine, I just don't find it practical. Because I hate them.

No, no, I don't mean that; it's just my dyed-in-the-wool console gamer upbrining. My only problem with PC gaming is the cost and efficiency. Buying a PC and souping it up to play games (or buying a particularly expensive, pre-souped up machine) strikes me as the equivalent of buying a limousine and turning it into a monster truck. It's just not the best use of the equipment. Operating systems are meant to be all things to all people, and therefore ultimately fail in most if not all areas.
Consoles, by contrast, are dedicated machines; they play games and that's it (unless you get MTV Music Generator or something like that). They have a stripped down operating system that maximizes the specs of their hardware. The PS2, at its highest price point, was about 300USD, and its graphics were a quantum leap above the original Playstation and Nintendo 64. The least expensive PC I've ever bought was five years ago for 400USD, and it can't even run Dreamfall. I had to invest at least another hundred in a graphics card that met its bare minimum requirements. Meanwhile, Dreamfall was ported to the original XBox, which had a pitiful 800MHz notebook processor that would have probably struggled to run XP, yet look at Halo 2.
So while PC gaming is probably the best overall experience, it's a Stretch Monster: big, loud, obnoxious, and utterly impractical. Though imagine if someone made a games-only OS for PCs, something for the case-modders and LAN-Junkies... that would be kind of cool, really.

Also, PC games are so abundant, there are LOADS of great games that have TONS of replayability. and there are lots of great PC gaming companies that show so much promise. and give PC gaming a bright future. Console games are hastily losing quality, creativity, innovation and originality. RPG's on consoles are almost un-heard of. which is sad because that's what i love most.

On a PC, system reqs are sketchy at best and you can find yourself buying a game you just cant play. Upgrading sooner or later can only go so far and you'll have to buy a new PC, and that cycles a lot more than consoles. Lastly they are expensive, even the PS3 is 300$ cheaper than a computer that will have any shelf life. I personally use a PC, but I'm considering going back to a 360 its just a lot less of a hassle.

I'm not trying to be mean here, but it really doesn't sound like you're that familiar with the process of putting together gaming PC's. If you're going out and buying a prebuilt computer with the idea that you're going to then "soup" it up to run, say, Crysis then you're going about it all wrong. The motherboard probably wouldn't be overclockable, you'd be limited on physical space, you'd void any warranty you may have had, and the parts would be questionable at best, rather then of your own choosing. Not to mention, you would spend far more money in the long run. The people who are wise with their computers will build them from the ground up, with the idea in mind that it'll be used for gaming.matsugawa said:

We could debate back and forth about the prices of PC gaming versus console gaming, but that's been done so many times on this forum that I'm not going to bother. But I'm definitely going to disagree with the "inefficient" statement, as I don't understand how it's inefficient to own a computer that can play video games. That actually sounds like efficiency more then anything.
Of course, I'll end this rant by saying: To each their own.
Usually the snobbery comes from the PCs to consoles. I rarely hear anything derogatory from console players to PC fans. I don't understand what the big deal is, everyone wants to play games, and the stories and strategies are similar if not identical. Wy do we seperate our selves? why can't we just get along?

For the record, I love my NES. That's my favorite platform. This is likley why consoles feel okay to me, because I started on them and grew up with them. The only real computer games I got my hands on at that age were puzzles and such, like minesweeper. I didn't even know what an RTS was untill I was about 15 or so, and by then I already had a PS2 and couldn't give a damn. Now I'm a bit more enlightened, but I still like to have my options. I've got the odd computer game, mostly older stuff, and I've got my consoles. I'll not be lumped into a group. I'm a gamer; neither casual nor hardcore, both PC and console.

Actually, a computer is likley more expensive in the long run considering the maintainince costs, perhiphials, hardware needed for a top of the line machine. Which almost immeadiately becomes obsolete and then needs to be upgraded or replaced.Desaari said:

PC gaming in decline? 12 million World of Warcraft players would like a word with you, along with the massive installed userbase of Steam.
I love my PC for strategy, simulations, quirky indie games that would never work on a console (too big for Live Arcade, too quirky for retail distribution), and scopes of gaming that just can't be matched on a console. The only thing I use consoles for is sports and racing games because even top-notch PCs are just too unreliable for genres that can be killed by dropped frames caused by background tasks.

I use PC. I was really hyped about getting a PS2, but I've drifted back to the best console ever.

PC gaming is fine, heck if you go by average time spent (thanks to counter-strike and spider-solitare) I probably play my Dell Mini more than 360 (though they pale in comparison to the PSP which is my Crackberry). I do wish the specs weren't so high (L4D at 5fps Mini, 20FPS on desktop with everything on minimum) though Spore runs fine even on the Mini. It just seems to be three categories left: Crysis level games that require custom machines and deep pockets, MMORPGs, and overpriced flash games like Bejeweled.
I, too, am a PC gamer.
Why? Using a mouse is so much more fluid than a controller. I can barely play COD4 on a PS3, since it's so robotic and unfriendly. On a PC, though, I am completely at home. Scoring headshots is so much easier.
I dunno if you guys agree, but a few years back, the PC scored some of the games exclusive to one particular console (i.e. Halo). And there were games, too, that were exclusive to this platform. I cannot imagine playing DotA on a console

Also, PC's rarely have issues with playing older games. My friend, a die-hard console fan, has a book cabinet full of consoles which he uses to game. Me, I have one desk for my experience. Plus, if he needs to play a game, he has to search around for it, wondering where he placed it. On a PC... that's not really an issue. I would say why, but the FBI might come a knockin'.

I use my PC for more than games, therefore it is a superior system in my eyes. I call it function. Of course, the games I play don't come out on the PC, so I have consoles too.
.....I give up. Why the hell are we argueing over crap like this? Gaming is gaming! If you play games, you are a gamer! That is as far as I allow my distinctions to go. It's really sucky that people have to start fights like this. Does any of it matter?! "Oh, I like PC, fuck consoles." "I like PS3, screw 360." Just play your damned games and enjoy yourselves!

Then spend the same amount as any other console to get older, overall better exclusives that still work with today's PC software, like Diablo, or Starcraft, or the Grim Fandango. All of these will play on a $400 computer.Bradfucius said:

Because alot of my games are PC and to me are shitloads easier to use rather then point a freaking Wii Remote around and using it to shoot. Oh, and then theres the ROM's...
