People over-estimate gaming rig costs immensely. I built my gaming rig on a budget I set, about $500, and with that I can run L4D, TF2, WoW(though I play Warhammer now), Guild Wars, UT3, Spore, The Last Remnant, WHATEVER on the highest specs, every check box checked, and it looks beautiful! Frame rate is a solid 60+ normally(not on warhammer though, waaaay too many people battling in confined spaces brings me down to 20+), over 100 during cutscenes and whatnot. Total end cost was about $550, though I salvaged my HDD and DvD drive from my old PC. the HDD is PATA though :(, but everything else in there is brand spankin new!

(All monetary values represented are in $USD)
Thats pretty much what I've been telling people. I built my first rig for about $1100 including a nice widescreen monitor. Its lasted since about the start of Vista and it is still going strong. I can run crysis medium-high at a framerate playable in intense firefights and I haven't overclocked it at all. I'm sure I could have gotten it for less too because I did it with little comparison shopping.

i know that there arent many PC gamers left. Sadly, I am one of this declining "Master Race" (Yahtzee said that). I love my PC. I love playing games on my PC and in my opinion no console is ever going to be better than a PC (ironic, since I have a PS3 and ride it nearly everyday...). Of course, I get attacked because of this. People call me noob and stupid all the time that I love my PC. But I dont care!!! What are your thoughts about PC gaming? (Warning: to any console lover who wishes to call me a noob, i've heard it all so if you've got nothing intelligent to say other than insults don't post!!!)
wait it is dying?? as if XD we will be around forever XD XD XD XD

basically at the moment it isnt dying because (a few not all)
a) all self respecting strat lovers players are PC gamers
b) atm if you have the cash, PC's are more powerfull with better graphics...IF you have the money
c) PC's are alot more flexible, and seeing as you cant do your homework, browse the net (efficiantly) AND blow the crap out of aliens on a console. (which might change in the future who knows?)
d) Mods mods and more mods, you cant create your own mods for a console game...well you can, but it isnt as easy...
e) Over the internet/network play is better...hands down... on a PC atm.... and it is free XD :p (yes it is free on cosoles other htan xbox... but seriously... they still suck)
f) World of warcraft and other MMORPG's....

Why PC's could die (some off)
1) consoles are cheaper, it is kinda cheaper... other than the fact most people play them on $1000+ TV's... but apparently that isnt meant to be included in the price... but PC monitors are... hypocrisy much??
2) they are becoming more like PC's and soon the difference between the 2 isnt going to be that different...
3)space... PC's take up a large amount of space... unless your using a laptop...
4) the ease of use... a console is brainless really, turn it on, it plays games... dont have to worry about driver problems, not enough system power etc etc
5) easier "party" multiplayer... yes it is easier having 2-4 people around playing split/share screen on a console than it is setting up lans etc

I agree. PC gaming is definately sticking around.

Aren't many left? There's definately more PC gamers than console gamers by far.

I play nearly all games on my PC. The few games I don't play are the newly released exclusives, like Resident Evil 5 etc.

Other than that, I emulate everything from NES to PS2 and play any PC game I feel inclined to interact with at any given moment.

I also agree with the over-estimation of rig costs. Sure, you'll have to put down a good sized investment to get a base rig, but after that the only thing you should be upgrading is your video card approximately once every 2-3 years. Your motherboard/RAM and CPU you won't need to upgrade for many years. So long as you invest somewhere in between mid-range to high-range.

It speaks for itself when you can play a PS2 game with 4096 texture resolution. Not to mention FFAA and AF for any new game. I'll never let that go.

I'm not trying to start a fight but can any console gamer name me a reason to like consoles instead of Pc's.

Anything a console can do a Pc can do better, faster, cheaper and with a few mods installed. Yes the occasional problem occurs but anyone who plays games will be more than capable of fixing them. Seriously I have nothing against consoles I just cant afford them and see no reason to use them.

Pc FTW!!!
Pc Fanboys need more credit ;-)

You should see 4chan's videogame board. It's common to see three or more threads with people bashing each others' gaming apparatus.

PC gaming is ideally suited to anything that's complex. You can't be accurate in selecting RTS troops, or upgrading RPG stats, or firing an FPS sniper rifle on a console.

I have no problems with consoles, hell, I still play my N64, now that was a beast of a system. But for me it's PC gaming all the way whenever possible. They're much more versatile than consoles.
That's more or less my position.

I believe it to be subject to your personal flavour more than which is "better". I can't hit anything in an FPS on a console. The controller thing just isn't natural for me as I've grown up around computers. My little brother however prefers consoles and their controls.

That said, the pc and console bashers are both blatently wrong. The commodore 64 is obviously the best gaming platform out there (get the tapedeck version!).

I don't want to sound mean or elitist, but I think the masses prefer the console is because it's much simpler. They don't have to worry about custom specs or anything like that.

I have two friends who call me crazy for preferring PC over console, but that's just because they're among the "simple" group. They prefer simpler gaming. Now, I know that there's more than just simpletons playing the consoles, so I'm going to keep that as a stereotype, because there's still plenty of console-lovers that I wouldn't call simpletons.

I hope I wasn't too harsh, I really don't mean to be...

I agree with you. It is easier with a console I have a PS3 and playing is indeed easier but when I compare the experience to my PC well PC clearly wins. Somehow consoles cant draw me into a game like a PC can

I love PC's and I rather have a PC than a console due to the sheer versatility of a PC. My ONLY complaint with PC gaming which is really prominent these days, is the lack of variety in games. Today it really all boils down to FPS, RTS, MMO, and some RPG's. Well that's how it feels on my end. Now I have nothing against these genres but I got enough FPS games I don't want anymore unless it's the next Crysis game, Gears 2, or Unreal Tournament. The RPOG's on PC are just "eh" to me, only ones of late I can tolerate are Last Remnant and Mass Effect. I just wish there was as much variety in PC gaming as there is on consoles. There are plenty of games I love that end up on consoles, I just really want to see some real variety.

I agree with you bro. Today I found myself bored because every single game that I have I played through hundreds of times and somehow wasnt in the mood to restart. And then I looked over some gaming catalogues and didnt find anything that would interest me. Absolutely nothing!!! This would have been impossible 2 years ago

Yea I know, all the upcoming PC games I am seeing I really don't give two shits about. I am a PC gamer and I HATE RTS's, yea blasphemy. I just really want more options than FPS which is just getting out of hand. The ONLY FPS's I am interested in are any newer editions to the Crysis franchise, and Singularity, because that looks fucking awesome. Would it kill to have a few RPG's? Now I know people are gonna say oblivion and fallout well just stop right there because I hated both of em. I still get some nice use out of my computer and my games granted, and my PC acts as a real expensive SNES and PS1 lol but damn...options just FEEL so limited these days.

PC Gaming will always be here, I believe. Simple why. You'll never be able to do with a controller what you can do with a mouse and a keyboard. Until we're so connected to technology that its like an overlay for existence, a la Shadowrun, but at that point who really cares? It'll be awesome.

blah blah blah Super Mario Multiverse (Actually, that last one would probably be good).
Because DLC and User-generated-content would be epic. There's also the tie-in to the movie The One... killing mario after mario to gain their power...

Yeah, I know people aren't agreeing with that statement, but uh... yeah. That's the way I've always seen it too. I mean, when Yahtzee described at PC gamers being the "master race", I'm pretty sure he was playing on that observation aswell, because a lot of gamers who are exclusively PC do behave as if they actually believe that.

Granted, I don't spend that much time on like ten different sites just to get a good feel of what the ratio of PC-gamer haters to Console-gamer haters are... cause well.... I kinda got better things to do and don't really like to go to sites full of haters. But from what I have run into, the only times I've ever seen anyone take shots at PC gamers are when they're being "PClitist's" and calling other gamers "console-tards". And I've run into that quite a bit.

Personally, I don't really care what others are playing, so long as the market is being fed and everyone's enjoying themselves with their respective machines, but it is kind of annoying hearing how people who use controllers are "garbage compared to anyone who uses a mouse and keyboard" or how people who invest in consoles are "too stupid and lazy to build a rig to play PC games on".

I mean, just out of curiosity, for those of you who've actually run into the visa versa and seen PC gamers get attacked by Console players, what do the console players even say? Cause I can't really think of a way to insult someone for choosing to play on a PC. Then again, like I said, I don't really care what platform anyone chooses to play on....

I love my PC (well, laptop) and I play it a lot more than I do my console. My favourite game of all time is a PC game (Private Eye) and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I prefer games on my 360.

This is because I don't have the money to upgrade my PC, and don't give me this shit about it being cheap.

Well it isnt cheap. You need to pay at least 1000 buck if you want a true monster of a PC. The 360 is a good console better than PS3 I think. But I always have problems with aiming
