Ok, I wasn't too sure where to put this as it's not technically a discussion, but I need the help of someone who knows their way around a PC.

So the story goes that I have been waiting a month for my new gaming rig (budget, mind) to arrive and today it finally arrived! After installing the usual BIOS and drivers and stuff I decided to pop in my new copy of STALKER: Call of Prypiat to break the new system in. After playing about 20 minutes the screen suddenly goes blank. The screen says there's no signal coming from the video card. I plug the HDMI cable out and in again, but to no avail. I am forced to restart the system manually. After using the computer for a while after this it happens again. This time I try connecting a DVI cable, this does not work either meaning there's nothing wrong with my screen. My system is very cool, so i doubt that heat is the problem, and all drivers are up to date.

I really hope someone can help me with figuring out what is wrong. It would really suck that my shiny new pc has a major flaw with it. Thanks in advance for all the help!

My specs are:

Intel i5 Quad 760 2.80Ghz
4 G Kingston ValueR 1333Hz RAM
Sapphire Radeon 5770 1 Gb Graphics Card
Gygabyte P55-USB3 Motherboard
Cheiftec Super Series 750W PSU
BenQ G2420HD Screen

You have a Sapphire video card.

Problem solved. Video card failure from a manufacturer I've heard nothing but horror stories from.

EDIT: Serious, sounds like a straight up video card fault.

EDIT EDIT: Why are you using HDMI? TV screen?

All I can suggest is trying it with a different monitor.

If that doesn't work, open the computer and check the hardware is fitted properly with no loose cables.

Does this only happen when you play the game? or just on the machine in general, It could be many things.

I agree with Tharwen here. It might not be a fault with the computer at all, could be the monitor.

Checked the internet. It suggests that the card is getting subpar power.

That card requires additional power (6 pin power cord in addition to slot power). Is it plugged in accordingly?

EDIT: It COULD be the monitor... but that just seems so stupid...

Always start at the simplest thing though. Replace the cord first (Already done), than check the power, than begin replacing components.

Pretty much what AccursedTheory said it usually is a sign of lack of power, depending on what type of power supply you have, if you have one of those with branching power connectors try to keep the graphics card on its own line, I had a similar problem with my geforce card and just putting it on its own line solved the problem.

Have you tried turning it off and on again and is the button on the front glowing?

Now that that is out of the way, have you opened your case up and unplugged the card from PSU and MB and put it back in? Was it shipped as whole? Some parts might have been knocked loose in transport. If it doesn't help send it back and have them fix it as it might be faulty?

If you build it yourself, did you put the card in the first PCI-E port on the board? Have you tried the second?

This is what I found online as well, I am in my tudent apartment so I have no tools to open the case and check. Ill have a look tomorrow. Also, I have heard only good things about Sapphire...chose them for this reason:(

You need tools to open your case?

Good luck, guy.

Someone has been spreading lies. Sapphire are pioneers and forerunners on the videocard market but they have never been good.

Make sure your power supply has enough 12v rails. Most graphic cards requirer two. The shutting sounds more like the card is trying to pull more power but isn't getting it. Also, as others have stated, it could be a bad card. I'd check out the power supply first.
