Only it was, until rather recently. Then I started using a headset (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-LifeChat-LX-3000-Headset-Black/dp/B000JSDOMO for reference) with the new PC. The headset itself works fine, but as a consequence there is no sound coming from the speakers. I've tried setting them as a default, and I've tried just about everything possible with control panel, but the speakers absolutely will not work. They're aren't broken because when I click 'test' they produce sound, but refuse to whenever I play anything.

EDIT: I just put Medieval 2 in and got sound, but Youtube won't work.

Does the PC have a sound card? If it does, you basically have to use only the sound card (the row of jack sockets usually fairly low down the back of the PC, but only if you do have a sound card) or only the motherboard (the group of sockets usually found higher up the back or on the top of the case) to make sound.

Do the speakers work if you plug them into the socket that the headphones are in now?

The LX-3000 are USB fed, I know as I'm using a pair right now. By using USB headphone the sound output will use the headset as the output device stopping the use of speakers in addition. To use the speakers change the output device to what was being used before.

The speakers are built into the monitor.
