Basically, Intel just released the Sandy Bridge processors, and that's a problem. I'm very close to upgrading, and I was going to get an i7 950, but now I'm having second thoughts... I've heard that they will be discontinuing LGA 1366 for LGA 2011 in Q3, and that the 2600K Sandy Bridge is 2-5 times better than the 950. I was hoping to build a rig that I wont have to majorly upgrade for a good 2 1/2 to 3 Years.

So here's my problem. The LGA 1155 boards are practically obsolete, to the point of not even supporting Triple Channel DDR3, but the processor is so much better, but then the LGA 2011 boards will make the LGA 1366 ones obsolete, and the processors will annihilate both the i7's and the Sandy Bridge, but I cannot wait until Q3 because I need to upgrade now, for various reasons. =[ What should I do...

The specs of the Computer I was going to build

i7 950 @ 3.06 GHz
Rampage III Extreme
6GB Corsair Dominator GT Triple Channel DDR3 RAM (2000 MHz)
Zalman CNPS9900MAX Heatsink
EVGA GTX 470 SuperClocked /w 1.2GB
2 x 1 TB Seagate Barracuda HDD's
80GB OCZ SSD (For boot)
Corsair MX 1000W PSU
Coolermaster HAF-X Case
Samsung Blu-Ray + DVD ROM Drive

If I go Sandy Bridge I would swap the:

i7 950 for: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-core-i7-2600k-unlocked-socket-1155-sandy-bridge-quad-core-34-ghz-8mb-cache-95w-retail

Rampage III Extreme for: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-p8p67-deluxe-intel-p67-express-s-1155-pci-e-20-(x16)-ddr3-2200(oc)-sata-6gb-s-sata-raid

Dominator GT RAM for: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-(2x4gb)-corsair-xms3-ddr3-pc3-16000-(2000)-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-9-10-9-27-165v

Please help, I really need it. =[

Frankly, you're probably overdoing it on the CPU and slightly underdoing it on the GPU. Graphics cards are the quickest parts to become obsolete, as they're the most important components on a gaming computer. Unless you're doing some heavy multimedia work or something else which would benefit from multithreading, you'd be just as well off with a Core i5 and saving your money.

In the PC-building business, there's a line of diminishing returns. Depending on what you're looking for, that line falls somewhere between $750 and $1,250, in my experience. What's more, unless we see another console generation in the next three years, graphical standards aren't going to go up that much. Hell, one of the most demanding games on hardware was released three years ago, and even Metro 2033 or ARMA 2 with high view distance aren't going to stress things out too much.
I was considering a Radeon 6870, however it has less VRAM, albeit a higher clock. Also, I was thinking possibly a GTX 570, however it's pricier.

Apart from the GPU, how long would you expect this rig to last, upgrade-wise?

Wrong, DX11 is taking its place. More and more games support it, and its features will start to become widely used in games. Hell its introduction might actually force console developers to consider a new generation instead of adding terrible gimmicks to their current consoles.

I must ask... why do you want triple channel ram when your cpu doesnt even support it? Sandy bridge only uses 2/4/6/8 as I understand. And yes I would upgrade to SB since (atleast for me) cheaper and you get a lot more performance from it. And if you overclock a i7 2600k to 4,8ghz (which is suppose to be quite easy) and since it also got hyper threading it will take a long time before you need to upgrade it.
