Peer Pressure! Peer Pressure!

So, this isn't necessarily peer pressure in the sense that the "peer" part doesn't have to apply. I was just wondering what other people on the Escapist are being pressured into doing, and who's doing it? Is it your parents, your significant other, mentors?

Edit: The topic title was an in-joke from high school. Whenever my friends would ask someone if they wanted to something...recreational, they would sarcastically say "Peer pressure! Peer pressure!" to drive the point home that they really didn't care.

I'm just graduating with my B.S. and everyone seems to have an opinion about what I should do next. Pretty much everyone is pounding the drum of graduate study, towards different degrees. Some say Master's (family), and my professors say I should apply for PhD programs while I'm still young.

Also, my mother is pressuring me into getting a car I don't want, because her friend is a Chevy dealer.

I'm getting a lot of pressure from my Mom to either continue my education after my Masters (I'll be finished in September, I only have my thesis left to finish) or jump straight into my career.

I've only just turned 21 and I've been in education since I was 4 and have had a job throughout most of my time in college. I want to take a year to travel or do something that doesn't require endless amounts of study.

I don't mean that I want to do nothing and just sit around but I'd love to get a normal, 9-5 job for a year to pay my way, save some money and chill out when I'm not working.

The thought of taking up a PhD or jumping into a research fellowship straight away makes me want to cry in a corner.

I experience no pressure of any kind.
And because of that I'm a lazy slob who doesn't amount to shit.

I was under a hell of a lot of pressure a couple of years to join Facebook. It seemed that everyone I met insisted that I join.

However, I am my own person and defiantly refused to join. Everyone has since accepted my decision and now leaves me alone about it.

Well, perhaps I am?
My brother is not Norwegian ^^
Or at least so you think.
And it's not like people don't lie on their profiles.
Ofcourse, you must be my long lost brother Jonluw!

Rejoice!

Well I remember back in High School nearly the end of my High School year we all went to the nearby pub. In there I got into peer pressure to drink a shot of whiskey which pretty much my fellow pupils chant me to do it. I would like to point out that I don't drink alcohol at all nor do I want to. Needless to day I didn't enjoy it. That is my first and last time I would ever give into alcohol related peer pressure.

That was many years ago and the only recent peer pressure I had was a couple of years ago when my parent wanted me to attend college/ local University just to do a degree in renewable energy (and also suggest to do a Master in my current degree) just because solar fitting and other renewable energy saving is in these days. I stand firm by my decession not to do it at all since it's just a waste of time and money for me since I have no interest in it at all (I will not work hard like I normally do for something I have no passion/ enthusiasm in).

I got into Beyblades as a kid when it was hot shit. Then everyone stopped using them.

Still occasionally battle one friend though but that was a lot of wasted money. Stupid little me.

I don't I've ever done anything I didn't want to because of peer pressure. I've pressured tons of people to do stuff using peer pressure though, none which were necessarily bad.

Nowadays I'm really hard to pressure into anything, in my school days I never really did anything because somebody asked me, but I was really easily stressed out back then, to the point people thought I was crazy, but yeah my parents do trying to pressure me into finding a wife when I see them but I can't say it affects me in any way other than mild annoyance.

Me, well, I am extremely resillient to peer pressure, however;

-I am being "pressured" by my teachers and some of my friends to do the D of E; not gonna happen, as I've all but lost faith in humanity, and because I am not wasting my time helping in my local library for a crappy 2 day camping trip and a miniscule commendation(even if I did finsh the bronze level, there would be no chance in hell that I'm continuing it on to silver and Gold).

-I am pressuring myself to revise more, but previous expremientations with mock exams prove to me that there is very little difference in my results if I did or didnt revise(once I got a worse grade for revising)

And thats about it.

The only pressure is that of which I put on myself. It just happens to be the heaviest most soul crushing kind.

Chevys are nice! But thinking about it, I'm 24 and on my third one. I do get pressured from time to time. I usually respond by changing the subject or tell them it's none of their damn business,

Their small cars (which is the size I'm looking for) are especially bad though.

I was peer pressured by my friends into doing the blender challenge. It tasted so bad. I didn't get sick. I'm proud of that at least.
