So I'm taking notes in class one day and I refer back to my notes later on to finish the assignment, and I have no idea what I have written. All I see are random scribbles bunched up together. I thought about my penmanship, and how much work it needs, for the rest of the day, until I get to my Computer Apps class. There, I realize that in this day and age, I have no real reason to write anything down. I type assignments, letters, and pretty much everything on my computer now.

I guess the point that I'm trying to make is that pretty soon handwriting will soon become obsolete. Is this a good thing or bad?

Bad thing. You don't learn as well by typing something, because the action is the same each time. When you write letters by hand, they're... they're more personal, somehow. The content means more to your brain.

If it becomes truly obsolete, than a loss of penmanship won't matter. I don't think it will ever be totally obsolete though.

Schools are thinking about not even teaching cursive. This would mean that they wouldn't be able to read any historical document in it's original form.

I wish I wrote fast enough to handwrite my lectures in school, because things are easier to remember when I handwrite them. But... nope.
I always say I'm going to handwrite them later, but I never do.

... Handwriting seems a lot more personal though, I like it better than emails. =)

prehaps in the far distant future. But for now, not everyone has computers, and people still require signatures on things.

I've noticed my penmanship has gotten better lately despite the fact that I do it a lot less. I mean, it's legible now. Weird how my quality is inversely proportional to how much practice I've had.

No it won't.

Radio didn't make books obsolete. TV didn't make radio obsolete. The internet hasn't made TV, print magazines or the telephone obsolete.

Bad, handwritten letters and notes are beautiful things. They hold character and personality. It's funny how these things we once took for granted become all important when they're in danger of being phased out by modern technology. I still write down all my thoughts. When I look back I can tell which ones I wrote when I was: angry, stoned, happy, drunk, upset, so I'm reminded to take it into context when I think "oh fuck I didn't write this did I...?"
