What do you fellow Ecapsist's feel about Penn Jillette, and/or the show Bullsh*t! If you've seen it?

While I generally agree with his overall points, his methods have no greater merit than those he stands against. As such, Penn is just as great an enemy of rational discourse as any of the talking heads and mythologies he confronts. As a result, even if I agree with him, I will not condone or support his actions.

I agree, but at the same time the irrationality that he goes about disproving the things he disagree's with is the same way that they irrationally go about proving their own idea's, except he makes more sense with his outcomes.

Despite the irrational way he proves it.

i think.............I feel ignorant now.

Aren't they the guys who made Desert Bus?
Indeed.

On most things I agree with P&T, but they do have a couple of times where they veer off into Anarchist territory for no other reason than "information wants to be free". Which is all very well and good until you consider how much of their stuff is copyrighted.

It's a lot easier to be an Armchair Anarchist than to live the real life.

After watching all episodes of Penn & Teller Bullshit, I can say that I really like the show. I also got the impression that I would enjoy discussing certain things with Penn. However, I've watched a few segments of his online series, Penn Says, and I was bored to tears.

So, as odd as it is, I would get along with the character of Penn in his show rather than Penn himself. Sure their views are the same, but one is actually engaging.

you actually won't find too much Penn Jillette love here at the Escapist... he has a Staunch libertarian view, and speaks a lot of bullshit viewed through his own bias as unalterable fact for a lot of people's tastes.

I, for one, take everything he says with a grain of salt, but love his work and find it hilarious.

normally i find them funny but sometimes penn seems to have too much of a biased view without any real evidence

Teller: Will you shut up!
Homer Simpson: Hey, I thought you didn't talk.
Teller: [nervously] Uh, I didn't mean to... it just slipped out. Oh god, now Penn's gonna beat me... He'll do it! I'm not the first Teller!

Heh, I just needed an excuse after Desert Bus to post that somewhere. Anyway, I didn't know anything about Penn and Teller except they were a double act who do magic shows, I think, and they did an unreleased game compilation that included Desert Bus back in '95, and this got found and put on the internet including Desert Bus. I also know they donated a hell of a lot to Child's Play due to the Desert Bus For Hope drives, so they're definitely people I like, even if I don't know much about them... :D.
