Perhaps the previous owner had been stabbed to death by a fiery witch with a poison sword?

It could have an emotional effect, but I think you'd have to know what the rest of the story was too. Perhaps the previous owner got killed so gruesomely that this new owner was entirely impervious, or perhaps it was one of those "lost relics in a backwoods area" kind of deals where he lives out in the woods away from civilization, or maybe he just stayed steadfast and when his town emptied it left the town empty for him to live on...

Definitely needs a story to back it up, but it could be excellent!
(and for the record, I agree that everyone's taking your comment too seriously.)
Thank you for restoring my faith in people on the internet!
Possibly it is a death so obscure that it basically counts as blank? Assuming that every time the belt takes on a new strength it removes the old one, if the last guy died by falling in a box and accidentally choking on a frog that was in the box, the chances of it happening again before the belt gains a new death is practically non-existant

Yeah, but just THINK how confident you'll be next time you come across a box with a frog in it! They said you were a coward, but you'll face that frog down alright!

Good lord people, he just made an offhand comment! No need to go attacking him for not worshiping a web comic!

Penny Arcade's newest strip begs to differ. [http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/] So does the entirety of Venus Envy. [http://www.venusenvycomic.com/] And no, it would not be poignant, just appropriate to the situation. Also, by suggesting that Tycho, who writes Penny Arcade, does not know what the word "poignant" means is insulting. Funny and ironic, though, is that you used poignant incorrectly in your post.
You take things too literally. When I said "I doubt poignant is in PAs vocabulary", I didn't mean it as a sting at the creator, implying he is an idiot. What I meant was that as a webcomic, there is more of a lean torwards humour than a dramatic storyline. And before you say "but there is a dramatic storyline in XYZ", read this again. More of a lean towards A. Not "a complete lack of B".

I always prided myself on knowing what a word is before using it, but apparently the world believes I am barely cognitive enough to type. Or is cognitive the wrong word? I don't know, I just headbutt the keyboard and hope it forms words. gtfrsgn mjjg fvc dxs cv v dc. Give me some credit please.

Am I the only person who thinks that it would be emotional for someone to, in a world embroiled by war, owning a soldiers belt that specialises in helping people overcome weakness, die peacefully surrounded by family rather than having his hands holding in his own guts?
No, the idea was fine. The way you expressed it just pissed me off.

What does this have to do with what I said? The statement I was addressing was, "I doubt [X] is in Penny Arcade's vocabulary." I was asking what it was you meant by that statement, because there are two valid interpretations, one of which I was prepared to address and one of which I merely disagreed with.

Nothing. Either of the two ways you could take it, were not the ways he meant it and it would be best to simply drop it.

As far as something relating to the topic at hand, I do agree that belts seem to have been overlooked in lore. How deviously clever, not only have they gotten creative in the sense that they are doing something different, they also came up with a special effect that I never would have thought up.

Ok that does sound worth while // How I never played Dragon Age so I don't know who deaths work in this game but been a WoW player I can see how in would come in handy

sounds too over powered to me. it would seem fun for a little bit, but then the game would probably become too easy. all you would have to do is let your character die, then let the belt make you immune to that death.

Yeah, but how do you get it? Like pre-order or something?
They probably should have put how to get it in the article, but here's the link http://dragonage.bioware.com/da2/info/pennyarcade/. Go there, click the box for the belt, put in your EA account e-mail and password as well as subscribe to the DA2 newsletter and it'll be added to your entitlements for DA2.

Nah, don't worry about that.

It won't make you immune to that type of death, I don't think, just give you resistance to it.
And then someone can just try and kill you a different way.

Like, say, with arrows instead of swords.

And, if the arrows kill you, and you come back, they just start using swords again...

However, I can see it being useful without being broken, especially if fighting a horde of whatevers that use the same weapons. And especially especially if you're the party tank.

You get knocked down, you get back up again, and are harder to kill!

I foresee fun with this item. Yes I do.

DAAAAH That was good!
Didn't expect THAT in this.
Well done for making the last five minutes of my Monday hi-larious.

I don't plan on getting DA2, so this doesn't effect me, but it's an interesting idea.

Will that work for the Xbox 360?

The funny thing is...I sgned up for it.

And I don't even want it! It's going to be useless, I'll just keep my staff.

If you were stabbed 43 times like Vil Arak, you'll have resistance to blades.
You must mean "you'll have resistance to daggers." Resistance to blades would be if you got slashed.

Damage type is serious business.

As far as I can tell from my promotions list, it works for the PC and 360. I don't see it listed for the PS3.
