I'm not a big fan of the Call of Duty series, and when I finished watching Yahtzee's new review the first thing I did was look up the glass torture scene in Black Ops, not entirely sure why, I guess the same reason why we look up the newest Mortal Kombat games fatalities, but anyway, after searching on youtube I find this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fvxS54r0mQ

THIS is what is what is keeping gaming down, people like this guy that have thousands of followers and preach their bile to the masses, then say that the game is the one brainwashing people. If you took what he says at first glance, it seems to make sense, but once you think about his argument in any way, you realise that it is complete BS. If this scene was in a movie, it would be said that it's to teach that in war there are no good guys, why does this argument change the second it's put into a game? People these days...

Oh that guys just a fucking idiot.

He's pretty much a fairly less extreme version of Glenn Beck.
I've seen his radio shows before and he's no better than him.

He's a nutter, just ignore him.

Though, I feel that you're giving him too much attention. He has thousands of followers because thousands of people don't like games. That doesn't change due to him, he just gets them all in one little group.

Where there are thousands that don't like games, there are millions who will fight and stand up for them as well.

His argument changes for the game because it is "simulated". You know - pressing a single button means that you are experienced in torture techniques.
this guy is from the school of logic where moving around a joystick and pressing R1 has made me a trained murderer thank to murder simulator 4 (GTAIV)!

I think the proof for that speaks for itself that he only shows the three seconds or so of torture, without any justification or context.

I also laughed when i saw them black out the information before the segment. Like it was a real thing that actually mattered.

He's just crying and whining. Bet if this was a movie, he would have said it was a cinematic masterpeice.

besides, if he doesnt like US policies, i'd love to his hear way.

This doesn't seem aimed at Black Ops, but to any fictional work that show torture.

Also, that guy is a deluded weirdo.

I personally thought where you drowned a mofo in ankle deep water was worse than the glass thing, but not by much. Also, there are assholes everywhere in the world and you just found one of the louder ones.

That's actually part of the game, when you start a mission it shows the text for a few seconds before it's blacked out.

I love that whenever he says "Call of Duty Black Ops" he can barely contain his rage. Vidja Games? They be the devils toys! Now stop playing your rock n' and a rollin' before Satan comes a knockin' on our door you lousy kids!

If you're going to start insulting an entire medium to a degree that angers thousands of people the least you can do is some proper research. Ignorance is bliss I suppose. Too bad ignorance isn't something that protects you from things like fists.

That's what I thought. Any tiny scrap of credibility he possibly could have had went flying out the window the moment that phrase came out of his mouth.

Wow, this in an age when even Rush Limbaugh [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/104874-Rush-Limbaugh-Sticks-Up-for-Video-Games] acknowledges videogames' artistic merit. Man, people are strange.

Conditioning us so that we become compliant towards corruption? This guy has obviously been living in a dream world. Good guys don't torture? Not to bash America, but they were supposedly the good guys in Vietnam and they committed atrocities, torture one of them. I know the Vietcong did this too, but there is no such thing as a "good guy". Corruption is rampant in all countries, even ones that claim to be the good guys. It may just be for monetary gain, but it's still corruption. A good current example would be my country (Ireland) where the government were greedy pigs and screwed the tax payers just so they could have their Mercs and Perks.

As for it in media, it's not uncommon. It's used for moral ambiguity so that the audience questions the hero or party they should be supporting through making the heroes more villainous and the villains more heroic. We can see this even in Shakespeare. In Hamlet we see the Prince abuse Ophelia, even though we should be supporting him. We see Claudius be a benevolent and good king while remaining corrupt. It's called putting things into fucking perspective and making characters and situations credible. Want to see a great example of this? Watch Unthinkable.

He would fuck over the US entirely. He seems to think that the world is like something out of a Disney film.
