People Make Games, Not Development Studios

Actually not a fan of the concept of auteurship. Namely because people make games, not a person. Peter Jackson has his name on Lord of the Rings, but I can't remember a movie other than LotR that he made where I thought it was remotely as good. Let's also not forget that the Star Wars prequels were made when George Lucas was the uncontested auteur behind the movie. In the IV and V I seem to remember that there was a lot of things that people did contrary to what he wanted, and largely for the better.

That being said I still like seeing credit where credit is due. Publicize what specific people put into games. That tells you far more about the person than that they've been credited with the movie as a whole. Plus it gives you an idea of what to expect when you see their name on something. If you see that one of the concept artists in a game where you liked the art is involved in another game you'll have an idea of what to expect from that game. Just crediting the guy who's name has been plastered on the game is not fair everyone else who helped shape the game, and it also really doesn't tell you much about what you should expect from them in another game their name has been plastered on

I loved Fable TLC, didn't get to play Fable 2 cuz of it being x-box 360 exclusive (THANKS Micro$h*te) and Fable 3 was garbage in comparison to the first one.

Question: Should i play Godus [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godus]? Peter Molyneux's latest attempt at relevance through the making of a shitty mobile paywall game funded through Kickstarter?

Answer: No. Peter Molyneux is a f*cking shill and an overhyping braggart. And Godus is a pathetic cash-in of any critical acclaim he might have once had.

Conclusion:
Yes. We should DEFINITELY judge games based on their directors ...but let's please not forget the sometimes much more brilliant people they eclipse.

Eh, I don't think changing the design process or attaching a name is going to help AAA at this point.
Indies, yes. But indie titles routinely feature dev-teams I can count on one hand, so it's not really critical to stamp one of their names onto the title or bibliography entry.

In just angry that Ken Levine left the Bioshock IP with 2K. They're going to totally fuck it up.
That's assuming that they even touch it. The guys in charge full well know that the name alone won't keep the franchise alive. We all saw how much bile got thrown on Infinite when Levine WAS at the helm (still got good ratings, but there was a LOT of doubt and debate). One bad game in the franchise and it gets tainted for a LONG time, and the executives know this.
My thoughts on this: Expect a new Bioshock from 2K within 3 years, and expect the team they get to pull a Halo 4 (at best).

Wow. I've never thought about this. Maybe I'll start paying attention to the creative leads (closes to director?) more.
