People upset PS4 controllers wont work on Ps5 games

This has been a thing I've seen all over twitter and the internet. Apparently Microsoft has allowed Xbox One controllers functionality on the Series X. Meanwhile Playstation will let the Ps4 Controller work on Ps5 but only for Ps4 games. Playstation 5 exclusive titles will not allow you to use a PS4 controller.

And boy oh boy people are pissed.

This kind of applies to what I said about Microsoft in the Xbox showcase, Microsoft is very very focused on keeping their past alive. So it makes sense that along with their backwards compatibility, that their hardware would also work back and forth. But the Series X controller is basically the same thing as the One controller. Without new functionality there is no reason why they wouldn't go back and forth.

Sony however has a brand new system with a new controller that has new features on it. As a result I'm sure controller gimmicks will be a thing and thus in order to play the new games you'd need a new controller. And people are actually upset about this, I don't understand. You've always needed a new controller for a new console. Yet people are acting like this is such a spit in the face of the consumer that they would make people buy new shit. Like have people not been paying attention the last 40 years of console history?

People just want everything for nothing these days I swear.

What do you guys think? Should Sony let the Ps4 controller work for Ps5 games or is it fine that they expect you to use the new controller for the new games? Remember the PS4 controller will work on the Ps5 system when playing Ps4 games, so it's not like you are completely throwing away your old stuff.

But why? I don't understand why people are bothered by this? You get a controller with the console. It's not like you are boned when you buy the system.

Well it mainly sucks for not being able to use all the specialty controllers but also, each console generation controllers get more expensive and each console tends to just come with one so if you do local multi then you are probably going to add another $100-150 to the cost of the console.

See the special accessability controllers I understand, for sure. I get that. But that's a new thing and your old stuff doesn't go anywhere.

As for the local multiplayer, I'm sure families with kids have this as an issue. The added cost however has always been a thing. You've always needed to do this and hopefully people are factoring that into the cost of the console if they are doing this. And if you can't afford it, then don't get the console until you can. It isn't like you absolutely NEED a new console on launch.

People will ***** about anything these days. The controller will have new features and games will be designed with a new controller in mind, which means with new features in mind. If you want to live in the past, by all means, play your PS4 games on your PS4 and don't bother upgrading, ever.

All of the competitors are so guilty of this it's crazy. Sony used to do permanent price drops with their controllers until 7th generation when they started copying Microsoft & Nintendo. Whenever I bought a new controller, it's always during a holiday/Black Friday sale. Controllers are the same price or higher than the fucking game. And Nintendo never price drops until a decade after the fact, and even then it's barely a sale. Their the video game equivalent of Disney when it comes to DVDs/Blu-Ray/4K.

I understand why people are upset, but they should not even be surprised anymore. Dumb asses. I will give Microsoft credit for the convience factor. You get a thumbs up from me.

What consoles actually had backwards compatible controllers?!
Wii had the Gamecube backwards compatibility with the controllers. A lot of Wii games worked with GC controllers too. Wii to Wii U had backwards compatible controllers as well. Don't tell me you have forgotten already.

I never owned a Wii or Wii U. I went straight from a Gamecube to a Xbox 360 and then PS4.
Backwards controllers never occurred to me.

Really? Even people I met the did not like Wii or Wii U and were PC/XBOX/PS only; most knew about the backwards compatibility. Color me surprised.

My lack of knowledge of the intricacies of Nintendo backwards compatibility aside, isn't the overwhelming majority of cases non-backwards compatibility? Like why are people surprised/saddened when virtually no consoles ever had it? Its like complaining the PS5 won't have Legend of Zelda OoT on it - most don't anyway.

You know how it is with certain people. You have some that wine like a baby for things they can't have, or when the opposing console players or PC players get games that are no longer exclusive (or get even better ports). We've seen it with Sony fanantics (especially them), Nintendo fanatics, Microsoft fanatics, and PC fanatics.

Well it'd be neat if the PS4 controllers worked but I wasn't expecting them to and I'm not in the least miffed about it.

PS3 pads don't work on ps4 either so this is nothing new....but I fully get it because I play fighters and I get extremely accustomed to the feel of my pad so if you ask me to adapt to a new pad you're making me relearn things I spent hundreds of hours working on. I legit won't get multiplat things on ps5 if they are on ps4 also for just this reason.

I mean sure, it has been normal - with some exceptions - that new consoles wont accept old controllers, but that still doesn't make it great. Imagine if you have spent £100s on perfectly good accessories, like extra controllers or 3rd party ones from RAZER or SCUF, just to be told that you can't use them anymore, for some arbitrary reason. Especially when you also see that Microsoft is allowing all Xbox One accessories to make the jump between consoles.

It is especially annoying when for most games, the restriction is literally pointless. Sure, the new controller has those fancy triggers, but in reality, how many games are going to use them? The PS4 has the touchpad, and yet most games - even first party Sony games - just uses it as an extra button to open the map.

Is this ultimately going to be a big deal? Probably not. Most PS5s will likely ship with at least one controller, but Im sure that a lot of people would really appreciate it if the PS5 controller restriction was reduced only to games that actively require the unique features, because we all know, that most will not.
