Eh, the bigger concern to me is new controllers working with old systems. For example, you can't find good PS3 controllers anymore. I had to buy this Battlefield 4 PS3 controller which is pretty solid but not quite as good as the DualShock 3.

You know how it is with certain people. You have some that wine like a baby for things they can't have, or when the opposing console players or PC players get games that are no longer exclusive (or get even better ports). We've seen it with Sony fanatics (especially them), Nintendo fanatics, Microsoft fanatics, and PC fanatics.
I have a PS4 and personally Im more upset the PS5 doesn't have a microwave oven built into it. And a fridge. And why is the PS5 not a Roomba while we're at it? The PS4 wasn't, sure, but this is the current age and I think Sony owes me a PS5 that can cook toasted ravioli, keep my drinks cold and clean my room while I'm playing as Spider Man in Marvel's Sony's Disney's The Avengers all at the same time.

I feel like this isn't really something to be pissed about once you think about it.

New consoles will come with a controller anyway.

Couch multiplayer is probably the only reason I'd be pissed about not being able to use old controllers? But I feel it is pretty much dead and I don't think there will be that many games that support couch multiplayer. There's probably going to be some games that do support it, but I seriously doubt we'll be going back to the days of 4P split screen Halo. If couch multi was that important to me I'd probably buy a switch or hook up a PC to my living room.

Feels like something people are pissed at merely because Xbox is doing it.

But it is an interesting discussion to have I feel. Times are changing, and lets be honest, with a bit of work I'm sure the PS4 controllers could have easily been made to work with majority of PS5 games. I can see how frustrating it could be to have all your old peripherals be completely useless once you've upgraded. This is a shitty comparison, but imagine your old Air Pods no longer working on the latest iPhone. Obviously its not exactly the same thing, but I think the world is going in the direction of people wanting to own less things but still be able to do more.

If Sony actually put in the effort this time and made use of the all the extras their controllers have, maybe this wouldn't be such a big problem for people.

This issue isn't a big deal for me personally, as the PS5 is years and years away from entering my life. But I do think there is some merit to people's anger. Just because it's always been like this, doesn't mean it couldn't be better.

I don’t think I’ve ever used a controller from a previous generation on a current gen console. I’ve done the opposite though, using a DS4 on PS3 with limited functionality. Have they said if that’s possible, using DS5 on PS4?

They have not. But I assume they are still using blue tooth connections so it might be possible. Though why would you want too, considing Ps4 games will work on ps5?

It just reminded me of how I bought a DS4 for PC gaming before I ever had a PS4 to play it on. I much preferred the feel and build quality. Hoping the DS5 follows suit.

I think the Xbox one and the Ps4 controllers are both equally good controllers. People have said that xbox had a better controller but I just never agreed I felt both controllers were fine.

The Ds5 is interesting because it is the first time that Sony's controllers seem to be changing shape. I mean every controller since Ps1 has been basically the same design, so I'm interested to see how this system's controllers feel.

I know one complaint that's pretty common with people is that the DS feels too small and fragile. So maybe the bulk of the Ds5 will fix that feeling.

We'll have to see.

That’s partly why I liked using DS4 over DS3. After playing anything on PS4, going back to finish up Dark Souls on PS3 with a DS3 felt like a travesty. Analog sticks were all loosy goosy and just holding the thing made me wonder how it ever seemed acceptable. Goes to show that people can get used to almost anything if there’s no better substitute.
