I don't care how many end-of-the-year polls it topped (although it is a good thing) until they win a "Best Album" or "Best International Band" at some award like they've deserved to do so since Leviathan, I'll continue plugging Crack the Skye as the best metal album in 20 years.

There aren't a lot of perfect albums I've encountered in my life. At least every album I've ever listened to has at least a couple of songs I don't really like all that much. I'd say Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness by the Smashing Pumpkins but there are several songs on the album I actually kind of dislike. I'd say Relationship of Command by At the Drive-In, but Mannequin Republic is sort of a weak track. I'd say Blazing Arrow by Blackalicious but... well actually that's a damn fine album, still it's long and by the second last track I always sort of want it to be over. I'd say Time Control by Hiromi Uehara, but Time Travel is sort of a weak song. I'd say Now He Sings, Now He Sobs by Chick Corea, but some songs blend into a a sort of 'generic Chick Corea' song type of thing. I'd say Piano Stories II by Joe Hisaishi, but I don't really like Rain Garden all that much (possibly because it immediately follows my favorite track, Kids Return). I'd say Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt, but I actually despise Don't Speak.
There is, however, one exception to this rule. It is an album I have loved with all my heart since I was 10. I know all the lyrics to every song; I listen to it about once a year with my very closest friends and we all yell out the lyrics so loud you can barely here them on the stereo. That album is The Blue Album by Weezer. Let me break it down for you:
My Name is Jonas gets us really pumped up. No One Else and The World Has Turned and Left Me Here ride out the energy. Buddy Holly brings it back up. Undone (The Sweater Song) inspires much yelling and at the final chorus we break up into the two different parts. Surfwax America is the only song where we don't know the lyrics as well and hesitate only to be brought back into it by the chorus. Say it Ain't So builds up a MASSIVE crescendo of raucous yelling and air guitar solos. In the Garage lets us ride out that energy and allows me to proud of actually having a twelve sided die and a dungeon master's guide. Holiday is our least favorite song on the album, but even as the least favorite it receives much love, yelling and air guitaring. Finally Only in Dreams comes on, my favorite song on the album. We're usually pretty beat, but we always have the energy to sing to along, especially to: "That way there's no way I will crush your pretty toenails into a thousand pieces".
Yes. The Blue Album is perfect. I would not change anything about it and even though I don't really like where Weezer is now, I still love the Blue Album more than most albums out there. It isn't even my favorite album, but I must say that there is no real weak track on that album, just great ones and excellent ones, and every time I listen to it I basically cream my pants.

I'm listening through Crack the Skye by Mastodon right now, and it is also very good. Prog albums always take a while to grow on me though. I remember hating BTBAM when I first heard them.

Take to the Skies by Enter Shikari. Every song is a masterpiece. Every other album I can think of always has that one song that I don't like... Even Doolittle by Pixies which is a close second has Dead on it.
