As I said before I will say again, so long as gameplay is like P3 and P4 (with social links) then I will like it. Remove those, then fuck it, you lose my money. Seriously Persona 2 had terrible gameplay and I hope that they stick with the system that they have (battles, shuffle time with getting personas, money from beating enemies and not reliant on shuffle time or jobs, gold hands that give huge xp money.)
I love all Persona games, but my least favorite would be the original for the story and combat where weakest in that, but if not for the original we would not have persona in the first place. If you mean Persona 2 EP from the playstation I would agree in it was bad with translation and some outdated combat mechanics, but the story and characters where unique and some combat aspecs like fusion attacks and a like where great and those would be welcomed in any persona series imo.
I like the social links and such, but if they didn't have those and yet had a great cast of characters, story, and gameplay I would buy it without a second thought. My only true concern is how they handle past games in how they play a part and the role if any they have with the new cast of characters and etc. So far the persona series has done pretty well with keeping continuity between each game minus of course the reset between Persona 2 IS to EP, but that was one of the main points in the story.
Actualy now that I think of it I kinda was downed how they played out some of the story in Persona 3 FES and making many of the cast members act unlike themselves. Oh and P4 Arena does bring in the question of which character story is consider the correct or more accurate of them all since some vary greatly and I am not counting the joke endings. I just assume it be a combination of Labrys, MC, Elizabeth, and Aigis with some parts from all the rest of the cast on how they got into the arena and maybe their commentary at the end like Naoto report. I just wish it was a better flowing story in that game, but I enjoyed it none the less.
