The first night of Atlus' 2019 Persona concert has concluded and we now have a new trailer for the Persona 5 remake/re-release Persona 5 The Royal.

The trailer displays new locations, new abilities, a new confidant in the form of a school counsellor, an extended storyline with more dates and of course a new member of the Phantom Thieves, Kasumi Yoshizawa.

The Royal will be releasing in Japan October 31, 2019, with a western release following in 2020.

UPDATE: On the second night of the concert Atlus have revealed a new spinoff called Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers, a musou game made in collaboration with Tecmo-Koei, for PS4 and Switch. There is no release date.

It's disappointing that shes not the fem joker. Her outfit and looks just scream Joker to me.

I'm actually excited for a new party member, I especially like her sleeves in her leotard form. I dunno why people were expecting her to be a female main character since they didn't even do that in p4g and they were advertising Marie right up to its release too.

Also, if the delay is like it was in p5 I'm gonna import this one from Japan too. Screw waiting half a year lmao.

Is this coming to the switch?

Is this DLC?

Is this a rerelease?

Unless this is for the switch, i don't see a reason for this to exist. Persona 5 was pretty much perfect the first time. Color me uninterested.

I am hesitantly excited about this game. P4G was better than the original in some ways, but the addition of Marie to the main plotline really weakened the narrative. The Adachi stuff was great though.

The new party member looks cool but I was hoping she was an alternate protag like P3P had.

Hopefully they take this opportunity to polish the endgame pacing and some of the dungeon design (most was great, but there were some sore spots). I assume we will get more Demons/Personas that have been getting developed by the SMT V team.

Nope, sorry, that outfit still looks dumb. Like. Really really dumb. Also her eyes look like they're about to pop out of her skull.

Still, I won't say no to another semester of P5. Sign me the hell up. (Though I have to join the people who would've appreciated a Fem!Joker)

You know, I never played the base of P4 so I had no idea that there was an extra character in the game until your comment. Now I'm even more interested in this P5 version to see how the narative has to change around having another character. Time management is gonna be harder with the extra confidant and new area stuff.

The main plot differences really come down to Marie's addition "fleshing out" the motivation of Izanami, but I never felt like that was needed. The original version of the main plot's final act works better for me. The added Adachi content went a long way in fleshing out his character beyond what the original had though, so Golden was worth it for that. His S.Link is one of my favorites in all the games, especially after the reversal.

This is like p3fes and p4golden. Not dlc or anything like that. Also it's ps4 exclusive like normal, I doubt it's gonna be on ps3 like p5 was though.

While the main plot did suffer, I also think p4's main plot was the weakest in general, so I guess little was lost? Marie on the other hand was great herself, so I enjoyed her addition as well as all those gameplay enhancements and of course the Adachi slink.

Idk, none of the games between P3, P4, and P5 had particularity well structured plotlines. That said, I think P4 delivered the best on its theme and atmosphere. The pacing of the mystery and how it unfolded I felt was pretty good, and the thematic elements of the story were woven very well into the characters/narrative.

P5 is the better game overall, but I don't necessarily think it's because of the story. P5's sore spot story-wise was definitely the cartoonish villains. Shido was not a very convincing antagonist and Aketchi kinda missed the mark for me (although I did like him overall).

A little disappointing, but not entirely unexpected.

imo P5 main plot wasn't just a bit weaker than P3/4, it was way worse and pretty much ruined the game for me. I think P3 did it best with very little to almost no main plot line which let the story and pacing focus more on the social link, without any long interruption every few weeks that stopped you from progressing the far more interesting side content. P4 was also pretty good when the dungeon were more self contained episode.

Christ, here's hoping they fix the glaring plot inadequacies.

I remember when I first played it and toward the end the calendar just fast forwarded through a bunch of shit, I swear I thought I got the bad end.

That was just a throwback to p3 which skips the few months after beating the final boss but before the final scenes.

I figured they'd make a re-release of Persona 5 with extra stuff, which is the reason I stopped playing Persona 5 after about the first couple dungeons despite REALLY liking the game. I'm just hoping that unlike Persona 3 PSP with it's lack of an overworld (is that the word?) and Persona 4 Golden with it's godawful new Chie voice actor they don't change anything significantly for the worse like they did with those.

Speaking of Persona 3 PSP, I'm fine with the fact that this one doesn't have a female protagonist option. I feel like if they are going to have such an option they really need to build the game around doing that specifically from the outset rather than awkwardly adding it into a re-release like they did with P3PSP.

This isn't like p3p, it's like p3fes compared to vanilla p3.
