I finally got around to starting persona 5. I'm very much enjoying it but I think I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the stuff you can do and by the time limits. I am just passed the first dungeon and named the team in the restaurant. There has just been the scene with Makoto and the headmaster.

The game is making me feel pressured to level up my confidants as quickly as possible but my social stats don't seem to be moving quickly enough.

1. I don't have enough kindness to hang out of Ann
2. I don't have enough guts to do the clinical trials
3. The shop owner hardly ever will let me help him so I can't level him up
4. I can't find where the other confidants are yet (where do I find them)
5. Nothing seems to level up kindness except for watering a plant and reading books
6. Nothing seems to level up charm except books

What are your tips for those who have completed it?

How can I get these things, and others, done efficiently without compromising the other elements fo the game in the time limit?

The royal remake is coming out next month so my honest advice would be to just start over on that if you're not too far along in the game (it's a 100-150 hour game and the remake will be a good 20% longer). Royal just adds so much more stuff and a whole new party member and a whole extra semester in the school where the base game just ends. It's totally worth it.

But yeah, you don't need to worry about it too much, you can gain skill levels during hanging out events and there's some chars who don't require you to have a certain aptitude to level up so you can start with them first.

As for the "other" ones, they get introduced at a steady pace as you advance the story, automatically, so if you're at a spot where your stats are too low to hang out with anyone but raising them seems like it'd take too long, that's a good point to move on with the story.

Ideally, what you wanna cut down on is "wasted" time, since every time you go into a dungeon that kinda cuts down on your actions for that day, so how you wanna go about this (while keeping backup saves) is that you wanna do all your bonding and social actions early on in a given month, then go right up to the deadline and go through the entire dungeon in a single day. You can give yourself the leeway of doing it in like 2 days early on until you get a feel for combat and so on but ideally getting to a point where you can do it all in 1 day is the best.

You can complete every dungeon in a single day pretty easily (the first one is the only one where that's hard) if you're struggling with SP, you can buy some SP item at the vending machine once in awhile. You can also buy accessory that return SP every turn at the clinic.

Soon you'll be able to unlock two confidants that will trivialize the time management (the teacher and the fortune teller), once you have them leveled up, you're pretty much set for the rest of the game. Honestly P5 is by far the easiest at time management (compared to 3/4), so I wouldn't really worry about it. The politician is also a good one to level up cause you get a lot of money from him, which makes everything easier.

Other random tips:
Every sunday(?) you can buy an item in the underground mall that will raise one of your stats (I think it's the coffe shop or something). Make sure you always have an unread book since you sometime have random event where you can read them.

Do you think you'll actually have to start a new game again to see all of that once the royal edition comes out? I thought it might be like DLC.

Your social stats will grow quite slowly, I didn't max them out until my second playthrough. You can increase your social stats through reading books, you can buy a TV, DVD player and later a games console from the second hand store and watching films and play video games. Also saying the right thing to people can raise your kindness, you don't need much to get to know Ann better. Other things like eating contests, learning and making infiltration tools will also help your social stats grow.

As well as the confidants that Meiam above mentioned, I would recommend getting to know Hifumi Togo, the Shogi player, quite well. She will allow you to swap your party members for members in your reserve in battle which when you are running low of SP will come in incredibly useful. For example, Morgana is your primary healer but also Makoto is a good backup should his SP run low. Befriending your teacher will come in incredibly useful for various reasons.

And finally, don't skimp on exploring Momentos every time you defeat a Palace, you will regret it if you do.

No, it is a "Directors Cut" of the game with added content and what have you. As far as I'm aware, it is only coming out as a different edition of the same game, not as DLC.

If you already were taught how to make coffee, make some coffee to boost the Cafe owner's confidant link and increase his level for sure the next time you hang out with him.

You can increase kindness through books and flower shop part-time job (part-time job pamphlets are found at the Shibuya Station). It requires charm tho, but no sweat! You can greatly increase charm at the bathhouse near the Cafe on rainy days or by hanging out with the politician. To start the politician confidant you must get a night-shift part-time job at Beef Bowl and work twice, then speak with the politician outside the subway station.

Don't worry, you'll be able to unlock more ways to increase your stats soon: Check the stores near the cafe, and you'll be able to buy a TV with a DVD player for your room. Then go to the central street and look for the video rental store, which allows you to rent DVDs that increase your social stats (it's like the books, except the boost happens immediately and not just until you finish them).

The airsoft shop owner is a confidant, but it requires level 4 guts. Increase your guts to level 2 first, and hang out with the doctor (hanging out with her will increase slightly your guts).

Royal actually is a retelling, not a remake or dlc. It's a buffed up and thoroughly enhanced retelling of the p5 story. It has unique confidants and unique persona forms for everyone and tons of unique mechanics and even a new class of superboss.

The way many events unfold is gonna be significantly different, since you will be going through these events with a whole new party member in your team which will change the dynamics completely. It's different enough where it's worth playing even if you've beaten the game without feeling like you're replaying the same game but if you haven't yet then might as well play the definitive edition.

You're still very early in the game, so there's plenty of time to min-max the heck out of your Confidants and stats.

Yeah, stats are a pain in the ass, I have little advice for those. For Charm, there's apparently a bath house not far from your house that buffs it, and jobs can boost your diligence (as can books and retro video games)

But for Confidants, here's my advice:

1) Do operation Maid-whatever-it's-called ASAP once it gets brought up. It's provides some REALLY good timesaving passives.

2) As soon as you unlock the night district-y kinda place, use the hell out of the fortune teller on days your preferred confidant isn't available. It will help complete them a lot quicker (The temple can be helpful too)

3) NEVER clear a path to the boss super early, and if you do, complete the boss ASAP. For some stupid-ass reason, if you do, your party members will not want to hang out with you until you finish the boss. And the side confidants (like the gamer) are not always available.

Don't sweat it TOO much. I made a lot of mistakes my first time and completed very few side confidants, but I was still able to max out most of my party members Social links.

While there is a 'golden path' where you can level up all stats and max out all confidants in one run, it's very tricky and it takes some of the fun out of the game IMO. For now, I'd say just focus on getting access to the confidants you personally like. If I had to suggest some to prioritize:
1) The maid from Operation Maidwatch
2) The fortune teller in Shinjuku
3) The street doctor in Yongen-Jaya
4) Any party member you plan on using a lot

As for the more difficult to find confidants, the speech-giving man outside Shibuya station is one, and one of your future party members can be found inside the station itself. The weapons shop owner is probably the hardest to start on, requiring massive Guts, so don't worry about him too much until later. You will be automatically led to most of the others, but when you're tasked with taking down someone who's cheating at video games in Mementos (yes I thought it was petty too considering you've taken down rapists, con artists, drug dealers and murderers by then), make sure to attempt that promptly so you can gain access to the final confidant.

"So glad I learned Japanese so I can keep borderline-homophobic jokes in my games.".

You know, outside of the circle of animu tiddy wankers, you don't sound half as "cool" as you might think.

Fixed.

The vast majority of utility in knowing Japanese comes in playing unreleased games, followed by importing games which were brought over without their original audio, or which received atrocious localizations. After that we have cases where a JP release happens many months before the worldwide one, so it helps in that case too. Also, it takes noting that back when I begun learning JP it was the early to mid 2000s so there was a very different climate with regards to dual audio releases and localizations so while you NOW may think there's less of a reason to learn Japanese, in the context I was in the situation was different. A case like this where a game is censored for no reason and I have to import it out of principle is exceedingly rare so to presume that's all the utility to be gotten out of it, or indeed, coolness, is ignorance at its best.

Oh and of course you have tons of anime and manga which again nowadays see release but which back then you had to hope a fansub group would pick up, so not having to rely on those and helping translate stuff for the less moonrunically apt of us out there also has it's virtues.

And hey, what's wrong with anumu tiddy wankers? Is this kink-shaming? Is it more prestigious to be into regular old porno whores or what? What's the wanking hierarchy? lol

Don't be disingenuous. You know what it's being altered is the gay pedophile predators, not the anumu tiddies.
