C'mon everybody, tells us about your pets who have died. Bring all those repressed childhood traumas out of their cages and let the tears flow!

I myself have lost no fewer than three cats to speeding cars, one of them only a few months after we got it. ) :
I also lost a whole tank full of fish when my sister's friend dumped a whole container of food into the tank. The poor little guys ate themselves to death. ) :

EDIT: Wait! Also share what you loved about your pets. There's too much sad here and not enough happy. My first cat, Shadow, was a coward but she was the nicest gentlest cat ever. The second one, Rascal, was the exact opposite and tons of fun. Finally, Cochise was really weird and had a hilarious love/hate relationship with my dog Duke. There, now I feel better.

My brother once killed his fish sea kitten, by taking it out of the water, and placing it in a potted plan. He then killed mine the same way...WEEKS LATER!

I just remembered another horrific one. This actually happened to my cousin. She was putting clothes into the washing machine (or maybe the dryer?) and didn't notice her cat jumping inside. She did the laundry.

One dog died, then the other one didn't know what to do, so she stopped eating. I was 12. These dogs were older than me.

This thread is so... so... [sup]*sobs*[/sup]

One day my dog got out and saw some bigger dogs across the street. He ran into the street and was hit by a van.

What's with the exclamation points in the OP? You sound very happy about hearing how people's pets died.

As I recently said in the thread about fish:

ElephantGuts in another thread said:
I got 3 goldfish after Kindergarten. They were actually some of the fish in my kindergarten class's tank, and my teacher was retiring that year and gave me some of the fish. They seemed to live forever, especially for goldfish. Eventually we bought one of those crappy algae-eating fish from some crappy unclean pet store (Petsmart I believe) and it got them all sick and they died.

My cat JD was an outside cat, who'd been getting quite old. Like most old outdoor cats, he'd been going outside for increasingly long periods of time, to the point that he'd only stop by once a month for a snack and a quick rest before trotting off again. Then one day last September he simply didn't come back. He may be somewhere else, he may be dead, but he's not coming back anytime soon.

I'd had JD since I was three, so needless to say I really do miss him.

Had a rabbit die of myximitosis, not very nice. My beloved cat, Zed, died after falling unconscious in the snow in our neighbor's garden after being (i think) hit by a car. He was a lovable lump of a cat; the sort that take up all of your bed and keep it warm. I also had a hamster that lasted a grand total of about six hours in our house before said cat managed to knock the cage off it's table and claim the prize from within.

This thread is full of cheer, isn't it?

I found a little kitten in the middle of the road, nearly dead, just days old. I took her home and gave her a name and fed her. After a few weeks she was healthier.

She began to learn to walk and started to move around, though she found it difficult, She used to crawl onto me and fall asleep.

One day a few months later after a troubled night I was sitting down watching t.v when she began to crawl up me and came to rest on my shoulder, her last wheezing breaths echoing into my ear as her short life drew to a close. I felt her grow stiff and cold on my neck as the tears welled up, there was nothing I could do.

I took solace outside, sitting in the balcony trying to think of ways I could have prevented or foreseen her death when there was a tap at the sliding windows. Her little head rose into view, followed by her paws.

she began to move, coming closer, trying to climb over the ledge, then she rose as if some ghostly apparition and began to dance; a voice was calling to me "Sitting on the dock of the bay..."

Dead cat puppetry. Never been funnier.

Oh man, I think I opened Pandora's Box here....

Some of these stories are just heart-wrenching. My experiences with pets have always been so trivial. But this is a good thing! Sometimes there's nothing better than just putting yourself out there for everyone to see. Remember how great your departed pets were? How much you loved them? They'd be happy to know they still have that love. They deserve this memorial.
