I still don't get how they're going to split a relatively short book like the Hobbit into two movies, while relatively (read: highly) detailed books like Lord of the Rings got compressed into one.

They'll look pretty either way, I guess.

I continue to love PJ. I am so happy he got his hands on Middle Earth. My favorite place ever.

I'm not sure if this is uncouth or against the rules on the Escapist, but I'm a video/film student and I may have gotten an erection at the mention of thirty REDs. THIRTY FREAKING REDS. The things I'd do with ONE RED.

Damn that's slightly ridiculous. I know "Gamer" used the RED cameras but I'm sure this will thrust them into the forefront of movie production.

District 9 was shot on RED cameras, along with Lars Von Trier's Antichrist. Kevin Smith's using them, they're becoming a HUGE thing in H-wood.

Last I heard they were putting in alot about what Gandalf was doing when he dissapeared (dealing with the necromancer mainly I think.

Of the two major cuts from the Lord of the Rings films Tom Bombidil and the Scourging, the first would have jarred the movie alot, and while a pity is understanble film wise. The Scourging, I have no idea why it was cut, though it feeling abit anticlimatic for a high fantasy epic, and it would have pushed the return to the point were its too long for one movie, but two would require alot of padding, and no real clear cut point to split it.

But basically the reason the hobbits getting 2 movies is they are adding more thans in the book, rather than stripping out bits that would have affected pacing (which are lacking in the hobbit anyway).

I've been wanting to use a RED for ages now and I'm lucky if I can ever get my hands on one of them for a project, now Peter comes along and buys 30 of them xD
