I have a question for the (mostly lonely) gamers on this site, regarding animals.
I (and my siblings) have astma correction: allergies(for people that do not know, that means that 'hairy' animals could kill :p) but I'm looking for some company during gaming and studying.
Now obviously, a fish is not what I'm looking for.
I would love some suggestions :)
Thanks in advance.

*edit*
Sorry :p astma was 'that other' thing I have...
I meant allergies

Well, how severe is it? Is no fur allowed, or just no high-shedding animals?

My dog is a Groodle (Golden Retriever X Poodle), incredibly fluffy, adorable and loveable. Despite his fluffiness, however, I have never seen him shed, not even during our infamous Australian Summer.

On the other hand, he's incredibly active and needs to be walked (at least) daily. I'm talking hourlong walks. That might not be the best for someone with your constitution.

Sorry I can't be more help, my animal knowledge is limited to what I have.

the abyssinian [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abyssinian_(cat)] breed of cat has very short hair and is hypoallergenic, my aunt and uncle who get stuffed up all to hell have one and love her. The only downside is I think they're rather expensive :/

A hamster or something like that wouldn't be terrible.

*edit* wait a sec asthma? That has nothing to do with animals you mean allergies?

It is the shedding that kills me.

A snake or scorpion would be so awesome :O
Going to need some time playing my parents before I can get that to work though...

DAMNIT! I was going to say fish...
Har har, luckily I thought ahead ^_^
A fish is going to be one of my last resorts, and I'm so not there yet.

Is it REAL Asthma, or is it severe allergies? My girlfriend has severe allergies, but if she has the kitten or puppy from six weeks on, it doesn't affect her the way a strange dog or cat would. She says she suffers no allergic reaction at all. I will direct her to this thread so she can take a look. (Watch for Darth Empyrean)
I think it is severe allergies...
I have a friend who has a whole bunch of rabbits, kittens, rats. I visit her regularly and these days I can stay for an entire day without an allergic reaction. While when I visit a 'strange' home with a 'new' kitten I can barely hold out for 2 hours... After an hour my eyes turn really really red and around that time I decide it is time for some fresh air :p

A shark. I think a turtle would be cool. Or an Iguana/some other lizard.
A shark would be so awesome :D I'll attach a laser to it's head and I can do that scene from Austin Powers ;)

if birds are okay then that would be a great choice as they are trainable and affectionate, also if you want something uncommon you could get an axolotl (a breed of mexican salamander which never undergoes metamorphosis but still reaches sexual maturity) although you can't really handle them, they look really cool though.

both have long lifespans

What about amphibians! something like fire bellied toads, or a salamander, or maybe a tree frog.

I would rather not have birds, since the few pet bird encouters I have usually end in the master trying to get his bird to let go of my ear >_<
The axolotl lookt totally awesome :D so I complete understand the advice, but they are endangered so I don't know if it is legal to keep one in captivity, let alone figuring out how to get one...

A fire bellied toad looks cool, but I don't know whether they could be too much to take care for... (they themselves poisoning their own water)

I am pretty new to having a (real) pet (again, fish don't count)

There are also completely hairless cats, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sphynx_(cat).
I just find them somewhat ugly. But they are still cats and you just can't go wrong with cats.

And I wouldn't recommend a bird for someone with allergies to other animals. People become allergic to birds pretty easily, or so I have heard.

heya, i have really severe allergies to fur and feathers too, i'm also asthmatic. When i was younger i had one of these - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leopard_gecko - They're really easy to look after (plus really cute) and are no trouble if you can stand the food.

Turtle or Iguana would be my choice. An Iguana is just perfect for putting on your shoulder.
