Pets. How do you view them?

This will be one of my weekly threads (if I have an idea or if theres another week)so pets.

What do you do with your pets when they die? Do you mourn for a while then get a new one, if so how long do you wait? My family waited for a month to replace our dog (because he was awesome). Yet one of the people I most respect in my school planned on when his dog was to die to replace him in 3 days.

My point is, should they be respected and mourned for a period of time? or just cast aside because there animals who we love for a time and get a new one because we need that love.

I had a Gold fish that I one at a carnival that lived for 9 years.

Yeah, it was pretty cool. Never replaced it.

I love my dogs, but that really doesn't stop them from getting more than a hole in the garden when they pass.

I usually wait three months between pets. When my first dog died, I waited that long and then got another dog.

I don't like pets because when they die it's really sad - sure, you're happy when they're alive, and I guess that makes up for the crushing sadness one has when they die, but still..... it's just a lot of effort.

I'm not a fan, im pretty much the cliche bachelor who cant take care of anything, not even myself, i just checked my bank account, somehow im gonna manage on 20 bucks for the rest of the month, and i cant get assassins creed 2 ;(.

also im allergic, my sister and i had a turtle when we where kids, and as far as i am aware hes still alive so i dont know what i do.

i expect that i will be somewhat sad, but not much more than the sadness i experience when the store has run out of milk.

Well, I'm a dog person, ever since I can remember we have had a dog. We had two (Bundy and Coke), they both died, we waited a little, and got a girl named Charlie. Then some friends of ours had puppies so ew took the runt of the litter away (turns out he is now the biggest one). Then Charlie died. So, really, ther ehas only ever been one period of time when I didn't have a dog ... and it was ... strange, the backyard felt empty. So yes, mourn their deaths and what-not, but a dog is just part of our family and when we don't have one it just feels weird (BTW, I refuse to get a cat/fish/bird/tiger/etc because nothing compares to a dog).

EDIT: God-dammit! When I entered this thread no-one had posted and by the time I finished I had been beaten by 7 people! ... and 'surprise, surprise' Furby was first.

They're like furry little family members, so I mourn them as long as I feel like I should.

Then I get another pet to fill the void, but it just never feels the same.

I just got kittens and they will never die. This is simply not possible.

If the impossible did occur I'd probably just dispose of the bodies and then get some more sometime down the track. I haven't really thought about it much, because, like I said earlier, this is not possible, so there's no point hypothesising about stuff which will never happen.

I lost 2 cats to Katrina, I'll always remember them fondly and yeah I was a bit sad. It was about 6 months before I got the first of the 2 replacements.

I don't like pets much myself, the rest of my family does.

For you furbie, I give you a pet rock. Give it love and it will love you back.

Eh, if you are sad when you dont have one and have the financial situation to have one then it's worth the effort...right?

When my dog dies I will wait a year and mourn her deeply because it really does make a difference to come home every day and have somthing always be excited to see you, and I truly do love my dog(not like that wierdos).

My dog is a beagle, and my best friend. His name is Skip. I was young, and we had just seen that depressing movie "My Dog Skip" with the Jack Russel Terrier.

I'm not sure how I'm going to feel, but moving on is all I guess I can do. My little buddy's been with me for about 11 years now, my guess is he's about 12 or 13.

I just hope it's natural and painless, and not one of those things I have to decide to do for him.

In the end I went with a cremation. Burned the little body along ith a few other precious things that "died".
