Okay, so, I'm not good at shooters. I suck at them. I know this from past experiences, and have therefore left the shooter (or at least the multiplayer shooters) alone.

But, sometimes you get that itch. That itch to really put yourself in a situation you're possibly going to regret but going to get into anyway.

So, if my random rambling hasn't made it clear yet, I want me some of that multiplayer shooter pie.
Specificly, on the pc.
More specificly, a good one.

Now, I could try Call of Duty, or Battlefield, but I might be wrong into thinking this, but I want to try out the genre, and not dive into 3 DLC packs and face up against pro's who will insta kill me, not because I'm bad, but because they got better stuff, because they pay.

I've thought about Team Fortess, Titanfall, and ...well... That's it...
So, I'm turning to the escapist, what's a fun, noob friendly shooter to get myself into?

I would also go with team fortress 2. It's got a pretty decent tutorial now if that's what you like to do (I wish it was there when I started), it's now free and people can't see how many deaths you have had which is always a good thing for me personally haha. Also you do actually have to kind of work as a team if you want to win.

To put a caveat on Team Fortress 2, if you suck at shooters because you don't have the reflexes, TF2 probably is a good bet for you. TF2 seems to be less about reflexes and more about class/map knowledge. And hats. Lots of hats.

TF2 also has the benefit of the different classes having wildly different play styles. A seasoned FPS player can get the most out of the scout and sniper, while the engineer suits those who prefer support over front line fighting.

Star Wars: Republic Commando
First person tactical shooter from... 2005 maybe?
You lead a team of 3 other specialist clones (one sniper, one bomb expert and one IT expert) while you're the leader of the team. It's single player only and the story is pretty short, but I found it for 10? so it was defineatly worth it.
While running around firing the living shit out of everything, you also can/have to give orders to the three other members what to do (otherwise they just use the rifle, you want them to use their abilities).

TF2 has my vote, i'm a noob myself and i still manage to get a nice K/D ratio while being useful to the team. And it's free so you wont lose anything if you don't like the game.

Did they shut down the servers while I wasn't looking? :O

Damn, the memories. I absolutely loved the multiplayer in that game.
I got the game in maybe 2009 and think maybe 2011 they shut 'em down...
Don't take my word for it but I think so.

OOH! OOH! I'M A SHOOTER GUY! I HAZ GAEMZ FOR YEW!!

I have a strong preference toward co-op, as I often play with my friends, or with a general team. A lot of these games center around that. Here's my list of favorite games to play.

Borderlands Series (Fun romp VS AI, but it can become dull quickly. 4p Co-op.)
Chivalry: Midievil Warfare (Not really a shooter per se. But this game is still hilarious. Comp only.)
Counter-Strike series. (A lot of hardcore people play this, but it's still fun now and then. Global Offensive is much more approachable. Comp only.)
Dead Space 1 (I have this on Steam, apparently. It was much better on the console. Horror game with a lot of RPG elements. 3rd person. SP only.)
Firefall (A lot of my friends play it. Feels a little like TF2 at times. MMO.)
Half-Life Series (I kind of feel these withstand the test of time. Primarily SP.)
Hard Reset (It was really corny, but I enjoyed it alooot. Some RPG elements. SP only.)
Insurgency (I'm liking it, and it's on sale now. It's Survival gametype is really fun. Co-op and Comp.)
Killing Floor (My brother still religiously plays this. Fight off hoards of monsters. Co-op only.)
Left 4 Dead 2 (From point A to point B zombie shooter. Mainly Co-op, but Comp exists.)
Natural Selection 2 (I still mostly play this because the IP is amazing. Mix of FPS/RTS. Comp only.)
Payday 2 (Rob banks and shit. This took up as much time as XCOM did. DLC feels worth it if you enjoy the game, and don't mind investing in it. You can play DLC maps if the host has the content, and you don't. Lots of RPG elements Co-op only)
PlanetSide 2 (Feels a lot like battlefield. If you enjoy that, you'll enjoy this 3-way war. MMO.) Edit: Caution. Sony runs this show.
STALKER Series (These games can be pretty brutal. People trying to survive a messed up wasteland. SP only)
Sanctum 2 (Really fun with three others. Mix of FPS and TD. Co-op or SP)
Team Fortress 2 (Hilarious when I'm in the mood. Very close attention to detail, really fun Competitive game.)
Unreal Tournament series (I feel this gets better the older you go. I also never played multiplayer, so there's that one. This series of games is like the sandbox of fast paced shooters.)
Warframe (Friends play it a lot. I trust them. Looks like a 3rd person shooter. A lot of co-op. MMO.)

I know you wanted mostly multiplayer stuff, but I included singleplayer shooters that I enjoyed too. I've italicized the singleplayer ones so it's easier to point out the multiplayer stuff.

People love to hate CoD, but hell: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is a ton of fun in multiplayer. It's fast, it's fluid, it's exciting, it's awesome. Jetpacks, double jumping, laser guns, you name it. Shit's rad.

And hell, with the right load-out it nearly plays like an arena shooter of yore. Because who needs iron sights when you can zip around high-speed with a sub-machine gun?

Pick up Call of Cuty: Black Ops 2 from any bargain bin and play for a while. This was one of imo one of the best CoD's to come out and I liked everything about it, from the story to the multiplayer modes.

And playing zombie mode is fun and challenging.

CS or TF2.

A million years old but still beat the crap out of all the new games. If you pick up CS, pick the one that appeals the most to you. Doesn't matter if you go 1.6, CSS or GO they're all good.

CoD or BF would be the next go to choice but you'd have to put up with some shitty companies to play them, so no recommendation.
