Cool new interview:

Apparently they're doing wire-fu motion capture for this game like they did in classic kung fu movies. That's why everything looks so smooth.

Also damn, that bot has spammed us to hell. Do we even have any mods here.

I hate this.
I hate how good it looks, and that I'm actually interested in another action combat game. I don't want to want to play one of these!
You can't escape....

It's in your blood like mine....

Though you don't have to force yourself. You've seen me take breaks on occasion. Right now i'm going through shinobi. There is still action, but it's much more platforming based even with the advanced combat. If you're looking for something a little more goofier, and possibly easier, then check this game out: Stupid Never Dies. You read that right. Combat gameplay is at the 1 minute and 30 second mark.

I'm happy they're making a comeback!
They're not even making a comeback anymore. They've already been back for a long while now. More of them are just coming out closer together now, but not by much.

  • Astral Chain (2019)
  • Oneechanbara Origin (2019 in Japan, 2020 everywhere else)
  • Punishing Gray Raven (2019)
  • Streets of Rage 4 (2020)
  • No More Heroes III (2021)
  • SIFU (2021)
  • Bayonetta 3 (2022)
  • Soulstice (2022)
  • Evil West (2022)
  • God of War: Ragnarok (2022) - Both Norse Era games still count, even though there is a shift in perspective.
  • Gungrave GORE (2022)
  • Hi-Fi Rush (2023 on Series X/PC, & then 2024 on PS5)
  • Wanted: Dead (2023)- Though that's a piece of garbage to me.
  • Zenless Zone Zero (2023)
  • FFXVI (2023)
  • FFVII Remake, Inter-grade, & Rebirth sort of count, depending on how you customize certain characters with Materia. You can have Cloud, Tifa, and Yuffie play like Platinum Games characters, if you equip them the right way.
  • Stellar Blade (2024)
  • Ninja Gaiden II Black (2025)
  • Lost Soul Aside (2025)
  • Shinobi: Art of Vengeance (2025)
  • Ninja Gaiden 4 (2025)
  • Romeo is a Dead Man (2026)
  • Stupid Never Dies (2026)
  • Onimusha: Way of the Sword (2026)
  • Tides of Annihilation (TBA/2027)

@Old_Hunter_77, YoVideoGames played more of the build! They got a lot to cover!

That's cool but I think I'll refrain from consuming too much content about it and wait for it to come out. Hopefully when it does come out it'll land well and I'll be in the mood for this type of game, then I'll go into it fresh.

On most recent Yo Video Games podcast they got into how Phantom Blade is not a souls-like, which of course I already new, but if this guy is right he's talking very specifically about how the game director is thinking about those souls mechanics:

He's talking about how concerned the game director is about player's time. About how enemies do not respawn, and how like if you kill a bunch of dudes guarding a treasure you don't have to kill them again to get back if you need to. Check points near boss fights (and yes, I know FromSoftware have been putting check points closes to boss fights and if it weren't for that I'd have never finished Sekiro or Elden Ring, but they still have plenty of other bullshit time wasting crap in their games).

I just like how conscious people are of these things and as much as I'm glad to have played the FromSoftware games, I am just really not interested in having my time wasted any more with a game style that at this point feels antiquated (I still maintain the 2015 Bloodborne was the peak of the series in terms of both level design and combat- Dark Souls 3 would count for those unable to play BB or who value the character creation/RPG part more than I do- and all the games after have been diminishing returns except for Sekiro which is different enough).

Hopefully, this is the year we start to move away from Souls-like being the gold standard of how 3rd person RPG's have to work. Or Souls-like with endless annoying parrying. It's time for some new shit. If Phantom Blade's parrying works well- is fair, impactful, and rewarding- but not required (and I don't like Lies of P where it's technically possible to play the whole game without parrying but that is effectively doing a weird skill run for that game and therefore I consider parrying required that game because I'm talking about normal first-time play-throughs) and is just good solid action combat otherwise, along with the QoL anti-FromSoftware stuff like letting my try a boss fight as many times as I like without losing resources or doing run backs, then this might actually be my second most anticipated game of the year now (nothing will top At Fate's End).

Gah, the hype is real now... so annoying, I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed.

Oh, oh... dare I dream of boss fights with just ONE HEALTH BAR?! Like you finally win... and you have won?! Or if it does transform, you don't have to do the first part again. No, that would just be too good to be true...

I was already tired of it since day two or three. Hence why I don't care for the franchise, nor the genre.

It's gonna be like MGR or NG4. It may not exactly be required, but you're gonna wanna know the timing or benefit from getting better with it. Especially when he gets to late game or you run into the skill check boss.

Just have realistic expectations. Learn from that and move on.

Remember MGR style. I'm sure there might be one or two bosses that might have a multiphase, but you'll still fight most, that only have the one health bars. NG4 bosses have two health bars, but they're not hidden, and it's pretty clear when they're going into their next phase. Also, Lost Soul Aside is old school stylisth action game in a majority of bosses only had the one health bar. You do notice a lot of these have been making a comeback now?
