We need a new industry in Michigan pretty badly. Maybe I should try and petition the Governor's office about getting some industry tax breaks up here.
Actually the Michigan Film Office is already giving a decent tax break to gaming companies. Their only hang-up is that they aren't sure how to define "gaming company," as their assumed definition applies to fairly large studios and the people trying to break in on it are groups like Hero Interactive, AKA three guys who work on flash games in their basements and outsource art to India...

Ohio might as well throw its name into the hat as well.... Oh wait the city of Cleveland over taxes, and doesn't offer many tax breaks... Nevermind then.

On a totally related-to-topic note, Philly wouldn't be too bad of a drive for conventions etc. I wouldn't mind this at all, assuming I don't get mugged when I visit. But that's the risk you run visiting any major city.... yay gogo inner city muggers! Oh snap I might make a guild with that name...

That's what I'm saying, give better tax breaks to the start-ups and small businesses. They go on and on about job creation, but the one industry who is still handling business in this economy isn't getting as widespread as it could be.

New York is the center of gaming...considering how many games take place there. My two most recent games were in New York and 'not' New York. (Prototype and GTA4)
Though in all seriousness, do we NEED a 'Hollywood of Gaming'? Seems...bad.

I see no point for a gaming hollywood and the reason why Philadelphia is such sa cheap place to live is because crime is so high everytime i read the paper another cop is getting shot and killed and if i were a game developer i would no want to live there but hey maybe the game industry can clean that town up

now that i think of it, it might give them so good idea for new IP's so now i am all for it

Hey, Scranton is in dire need of new industry, and our ass-clown of a mayor isn't above giving businesses tax-free status for campaign contributions. Not to mention it costs half as much to live here, than it does in a bigger city, and you don't have to worry about pesky things like getting murdered in the middle of the street in broad daylight. They should come here!
Lol, if you're not a moron (i.e. a white guy who dresses well at night in the ghetto) you're not going to get killed.

I live there, and would love it if this happened.

If this happens, then for the first time in American history, Philadelphia is going to matter.

The Greater Philadelphia Film office has been actively courting film producers for some time to do film shoots in the city. They help producers with permits, locations, casting, and tax incentives. The VGI should try to hook up with them to start a side-branch for gaming.

I hope so. I live 30 minutes from Philly and want to become a programmer of some sort. Could you imagine the commute? Would be awesome!

What, the foundation of the United States of America wasn't good enough for you?

Anyway, if we're still debating about the new center of the gaming industry, how about Baltimore? Twice the crime at half the price! And we'll give you crabs! Everyone in Baltimore has crabs! You'll get them on your first night with us! Trust us, you'll love 'em!

Sweet mother of fuck, I'm in!

honestly though, one thing that really sucks about trying to get into the gaming industry is finding somewhere to move. If Philly can pull this off, then at least that's an option. So far, I've heard of 0 game companies here in Las Vegas, let alone Nevada. I'd love to move to California, but the cost of living would involve too many sacrifices: like my firstborn and maybe a few organs.

Oh, and that bullshit that most objects I buy online are illegal to be shipped there.

Eh we've got Havoc, modern games would be lost without us.
And Game Republic too, Ireland is like the gaming capital of the world obviously
You make a good point, we should definitely put up a stake to make Ireland the gaming capital of the world!

I'm sold! Where do I pick up my crabs?
