Phone games worth a damn

Honestly when it come to smartphone games, I tend to played puzzle games the most like Dots and 2048.

Other than Angry Birds, I had also enjoyed this simpligy dungeon game called Heroes of Loot and Super Secret Service!

My guilty pleasure is Brave Frontier, an RPG-ish game with loads of characters. Only problem is that it's bad for veterans i.e. lackluster end-game content. My other guilty pleasure is Tap Titans, a Cookie-Clicker-esque game.

Deemo is a great rhythm game I recommend.
Really depends on what games you like.

Summoners War is like Pokemon mixed with Final Fantasy. You can summon monsters and there are a lot of different types. Then use them to hunt in dungeons and pvp. You essentially hunt for better upgrades for your monsters and the ability to summon new monsters plus level up your monsters. You can make gems pretty easy without having to pay real money. They always have events going to help you get gems and monsters and stuff. Monsters are attributed to an element (Fire, Water, Wind, Light, Dark) And there is a luck of the draw factor when hunting for stuff which is what keeps me going on it. I have been playing it for about 4 months straight now and don't see myself stopping for a while.

No, no they aren't. I wish I could leave it at that, it's really all a comment like that deserves but I don't want to be warned.

The word "phone" is not accurate anymore, merely convenient. The fact is that the devices we call phones are actually extremely portable computers. They just happen to also have phone capabilites. Deal with it gramps.

The last i device I owned was a shuffle about 5 years ago. Just because I use a device for its intended purpose, communication, gps, mobile internet, and yeah games from time to time, that's no reason to insult and wish me ill.

The fact is that my response to you was accurate and logical. If logic and technology are both over your head then you've no one to blame but yourself. Deal with it gramps.

I am absolutely baffled how seemingly nobody thinks of copying the ludicrously successful formula of pokemon to phones with their proper internet integration.
Or at least there is no high-profile well made monster enslavement game that isn't just another reskinned match 3 game. (yeah puzzle and dragons doesn't count, I want to actually explore places and have actual strategic battles)

Some tower defense games like kingdom rush are alright I guess and hearthstone made it to phones recently if you like that.

Colossatron is a beast of a match-3 game. You start out as a robot snake thing that destroys cities. You don't get to control the robo-snake, BUT you get to make it more powerful by matching up colored "cores" that make up its body.

It's an incredibly fun game that I haven't had to spend a dime on to enjoy. If you like match-3 stuff, give it a whirl. And destroying a whole game-city scratches a certain itch on a rough day.

Summoners War [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.com2us.smon.normal.freefull.google.kr.android.common&hl=en] had a bit of a Pokemon feel. No real world exploration, just some simple "story" explained via text over static NPC manga images between fights. But there was some monster collecting, leveling, evolving, team building type of gameplay which was ok. Pokemon was never my thing though (Gasp!), so I'm not sure how well it stacks up.

Plague Inc is utterly unique, with you playing as a disease trying to kill off everyone in the world. A nice little sim-styled game, has expansions to add zombies and apes from the film too.

I'll second this strongly. I haven't found a phone game yet that I can put more time into than Plague Inc.

Yes, it's a knockoff of that Pandemic flash game, but it does improve it in a lot of way.

It becomes truly good when you get the Zombie expansion and it becomes far more strategic with actual control of hordes and being able to evolve the zombies into all kinds of Left 4 Dead types.

Haven't bothered to see if anyone else has mentioned it but if they haven't I HIGHLY recommend it.

It's basically more or less just the phone-version of Castle Crashers but with a sprinkle of more RPG (each character having their own personal abilities and skill tree to level, purchasable/upgradable weapons & armor)

If you can, get it on an iPhone or Apple mobile, as I believe the game is way more updated on that version, however, I played it on Android it's great all the same.

Tends to get grindy a little bit toward the end but this game is easily the best I've ever played on a mobile, probably had over 100 hours logged in on some old phone of mine somewhere.

Oh and it's free, at least for Android.

(Shoutout to Shadow Fight 2 for being the only reasonable "fighting game lite" on mobile.)

Angry birds is my favorite; well, it's more of a series and I hate their racing and epic cash-ins, but I've greatly enjoyed playing through all of the 'traditional' angry birds games. My favorite is angry birds stella, but I've found they all have their pros and cons. It sucks for the iOS platforms, though, as they cost more on there for no real reason and only a few of the games are completely playable with just in-game advertising. I despise microtransactions so the most rovio has gotten out of me has been just a few bucks to purchase the games in the windows store (which used to have the best versions of the games until they fell behind in the updates); but on other platforms they will empty the wallets of the unweary. I've just about cooked the antenna on my phone because it couldn't handle the heat generated from playing those games so much.

I miss tetris, but I've found angry birds has filled that niche nicely for me.

Civ Revolutions is my favourite iPhone game.

The Call of Duty World at War iPhone game is really well made, and I often find myself playing a few rounds of it during long journeys to pass the time. All the official maps from WaW are included in the game, and it runs really well on just about anything. Sure, you have to make do with touch analogue sticks, but there is enough aim assist to make it bearable.

Puzzle Forge is also a pretty interesting free game, even if it gets damn hard later on.

Threes is also a game that I play every now and again. Sure, it costs money, and sure, you can get 2048 for free, but Threes is, well, good.

Hearthstone was just released on the iPhone, so there is a game that you have no reason not to try out.

Pixel Dungeon is a rather fun rogue-lite for Android. It's free and under continuing development, and has a few mods out too. I hope it will get Greenlit on Steam too, because a PC version would be lots of fun to play too.

I always demand that people install Puzzles and Dragons on their devices. It is an amazingly deep game for a simple match3 puzzle. I think of it as Bejeweled meets Pokemon.

Duet and the Impossible game, if you need to kill a few minutes and hate yourself (these games can be rage inducing)
Frozen Synapse, you can seamlessly switch between PC and phone, a great way to lock in a turn while on the bus
SpaceChem, a unique little puzzle game
Anything from Kairosoft, I love their addicting tycoon games, start with Game Dev Story
Kingdom Rush Origins, One of the best Tower defence games I've ever found
Ticket to ride, Galaxy Trucker, Monument Vally, 80 days, have been noted previously in this thread
Bounden, best to play this one with a loved one :3

A lot of games I pull from the humble mobile bundle, I love it that all the micro transactions are taken out and you get complete versions.
