Since games are always trying to be more realistic I got to wondering what aspects of games will never ever change to accommodate the real world?

The first example I always think of is reloading. Whenever you reload in any game ever we see a character take a new clip and put it into the gun, while the clip taken out is gone. However, if that clip still had bullets in it, they still remain in your inventory. You can shoot two bullets out of the drum magazine on Hitman: Blood Money and then reload, pulling another drum magazine out of your stylish suit, and you can continue doing this until you're completely out of ammo.

Are there any other things like this that cannot be changed for fear of shaking up gameplay too much?

I believe the SOCOM series actually does give you an amount of clips that you can switch between that remain without the number of bullets you already fired from them.

A way to regenerate health within a few seconds.
Med-packs, regeneration, some sort of magic skill, there's always a way to quickly get back health.

An unlimited supply of caffeine shots that you take automatically? I can't remember the last time I played a game that required the player to sleep. Or eat for that matter.

Running for a long time. I know you can't sprint forever in most games but even jogging gets tiring eventually. That and having to go pee.

Battlefield 2 had clips. But I guess by that logic, you could keep your old clips and have a few clips of 1 or 2 bullets... I guess that could get intense. I think most games do it the other way for simplicity's sake. Some aspects of real life must be sacrificed in order to produce a game that is fun while not being a simulation.

That and what everyone else said... Running that long would be impossible. Also, having realistic weights and stuff would be impossible in Fallout and Oblivion. You could carry a sword and a few pieces of beef jerky in your sweaty loincloth pocket. Not five hams, a watermelon, twenty swords, and a full blown alchemy kit.

Go check out MarineMike's reviews on ammo, grenades and rockets. I won't link them because I'm lazy, but he addresses the point that there are various unrealistic aspects of all of those that will remain because otherwise they'd never be used.

Sweet, free advertising!
Although I'm lazy as well, so I'm only going to link to the one about ammo [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.191343-Marine-Mike-Reviews-Magazines-and-Reloading]. You can link to my other reviews from there, they pretty much sum up my feelings on this topic.

I'm sure somebody's already said it: Huge inventories that are supposed to be the innards of someone's backpack or something.

Not to just rain on your parade but, Mercenaries 2:World in Flames deals with handheld weapons in that fashion but they never really say so anywhere so I didn't notice for a while(about one third of the way - halfway into the game) that ammo was magazine based when I wanted refill my clip on my Anti-Material Sniper Rifle after shooting 6 or 7 shots (used 1 full clip and 1 round from the next) and noticed you just toss the remaining ammo regardless.

Also I recall this issuse from an older topic and someone mentioned another game with magazines like that but it's definatly the menority vs. magazine recycling.

I'd say the ability to get shot several times and survive. If they took that out, I think the game would be extremely hard. Correct me if I'm wrong! And it seems that on any game, (short of the SIMS) no one ever goes to the bathroom. Or bathes.

everyone has missed jumping.

Jumping is always, or almost always, instantaneous. No crouch, just 3 feet of vertical hop.
