I also have 2 good friends that did a degree in physics. The first thing they were told was "Right, everything you were told at A-Level is pretty much a lie".

Of course they needed the Physics A-Level to do the degree, its just quite amusing that it was simplified to the extent it was pretty much useless.

Having studied both at university, I would say save time money and self-respect by getting a career... =) Sounds dickish but in the end, you'll thank me for it! =D Unless of course it goes tits up, in which case, I'm sorry... =P

On a more serious side note, Maths if you like random numbers and equations without any real connection to anything in the real world and Physics if you want your numbers to ultimately lead somewhere useful and helpful to the real world, preferably not Greggs! =P

looking back, the same applies to A level looking down on GCSE

OT: if you're planning on being a Dr, you need both really, unless you plan on going to a second or third rate uni

If you can handle the work I would recommend both as they seriously compliment eachother.

In fact I've just started doing my Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Maths A levels =D.

Maths. While they compliment each other beautifully (yes i'm a maths and Physics geek), if you want to be a doctor as opposed to a physics of maths-based career I'd go with maths.

Anyway i have checked and most of them just say chemistry and biology are needed, i just wanted to see if maths was better than physics, or vise-versa.

Physics is fairly easy until they start getting into the mindscrew of quantum physics. Then, it takes some adjusting. Really, since you have the mathematical background you should do just fine.

Physics is just applied math. Basically do you want something more theoretical or applicable?

I'd go with maths (god, that feels really weird). You might think it won't matter anyway, but if you're planning on medicine, statistics can be very useful. And physics, as someone said already, is a harder subject than most people think. In particular, E&M is a huge *****.

Go for what's easier, which I'd say is math. Both will feed you a pile of useless shit you don't need with a few bread crumbs of useful information and you'll forget most of it in due time until you study it up again for something with a practical application. So while physics might have more useful things for later on, risking your entrance is not worth it, you'll just pick that stuff up later when it's time.

I'm picking my A levels for sixth form, and i'm wondering what is better for me to choose. Maths? or physics?

I'm taking Biology and chemistry definately and while i could do both maths and physics, i don't want it to be too stressful and in the end effect my results.
(e.g. getting 4 B's instead of 3 A's)

I thought i could ask the opinion of the escapist because i thought you might know a bit more about it.

I'm asipiring to be a doctor in my later years. I haven't picked a univerisity (so any thoughts on that would be appreciated) but i know i would need about 3 A's to get to most universities.

Also just to make it a bit harder, i didn't take physics for GCSE so i haven't learnt any of it, and i got an A in maths. But the maths department at the school i want to go to is not exceedingly good,so that is also a negative.

Biology chemistry maths and IT. A starred em all in GCSE. Three sciences is hard and physics is the hardest, having no prior experience will kick you in the ass. Do mthas, the possibilities are endless!

You'll have a bit of trouble with A level Physics without at least AS Maths.

I'm a Scottish student so I don't know what A level maths is like, but if it's anything like Higher + Advanced Higher maths (which I've heard it is) then it should be a piece of pish.

Mind you, I'm studying Maths-Physics myself so I love both, but if your just after the easy A I'd go for Maths (I've no idea what A level physics would be like but I found the Adv Higher exam pretty tough. And my project was apparently shit, even though my teacher liked it a lot)

If you're on AQA Physics, don't take it it's awful, but maths isn't good either XD

And if you want to be a Doctor get medical work experience FAST. It's getting even more competitive and you won't get into a medical course without it. And work your arse off.

EDIT: A good uni for Medicine would be Manchester, very fucking hard to get in there though.
