To be more specific water crystallizes when it freezes and the structures created are less dense than the liquid which is why it floats.

Im sure there are more things than water that do that.

Water is not unique in this regard but this property of water (itself a result of the polar nature of the water molecule - that is, the molecule, thanks to the mass of the oxygen atom, has a positive "side" and a negative "side"), is fundamental to life existing on earth. Someone mentioned to me today that 1337% of Pi = 42. Sure enough, I ran the numbers and to two decimal places, Pi * 13.37 = 42.00.

That little spider is awesome, I saw a discovery show about it communicating with a little robot spider the research team had made, and how the thing could adapt, from a little jumping spider that is nucking futs!
