Well, part of what makes zombies so fun is that it instantly makes your cushy life into an urban wilderness. Luxury disappears and survival is all that matters. Of course, this itself is just a game too. Those who actually buy survival gear are just taking this game too seriously. We just like playing around with the thought of having to take what is nearby and familiar and suddenly having to use it in a life and death situation.

That being said, as far as actually surviving through an apocalypse, zombies really would be fun if they were like those in the movies. But as for the actual fear of infection and having to kill loved ones with your bare hands, zombies would be much much worse than surviving an army invasion or atomic fallout.

The more realistic apocalypses of water wars, famine, and government collapse, though, would be much more interesting to survive. Culture and humanity would live on and have to change in very interesting ways. What remains after society falls (an anxiety every Westerner faces because very little actually holds it up, a source of play for quasi-rebellious youth) is much more interesting than the actual fall.

So if I had to choose, I'd prefer to live through economic collapse (and therefore governmental and environmental collapse).

I choose for the Fallout one, and to be the one guy escorted to Vault 69.

Nuclear Fallout and Zombies seem to be the absolute best. Recently I've been finding myself picturing a really crowded area and thinking "What would this be like in a nuclear apocalypse, with nobody else around but me, wandering?"
